And this is why you don't put me on making friendship bracelets for fundraising

They want to eliminate the IU Music BA ? The one that brings in mostly out-of-state money and is what helps power the Masters and Doctorate world-renowned programs in Music?

(note-Purdue multi-Gen family here being outraged)

Why am I now hearing "Fish heads, fish heads, roly poly fish heads" with Hound gleefully barking in the background?

"Sure," said the rocket scientist, "we can send rockets to the moon."

"We can build a city there," said the engineer. "It'll be expensive, but we can do it."

"But why?" said the economist. "What would you mine there you can't get on Earth?"

"One thing," said the billionaire. "Respect."

BTW, if you are watching curling and think it looks fun, it is! Just be warned that
- those stones are really ~40 pound rocks with handles
- you are sliding that rock 150 feet to the house
-you're wearing a shoe with Teflon on the ice (the other one has grip)

Winterguard up over 6 points this weekend. Drumline placed 2nd with a solid score for a 1st comp. One lost jacket (found), one lost bag (found), only 1 case of frostnip (me, looking for lost items in the parking lot). It's only in three fingers, but it's making typing interesting today

Seriously, for a 4.5 minute show, I have about six hours of prep on competition day between uniforms, hair, makeup, props, and transport.

This does not count the two hours I spent digging (by hand) our trailer out this week. I can't imagine how we'd do that this morning

Competition day, when I'm dealing with 11 nervous teenagers in spandex and we have to transport a 400 pound floor as well as 22 six-foot flags plus assorted equipment. The wind is currently howling at about 40mph.
Thank heavens I'm not in drumline and having to drive the trailer full of instruments

Today is the day I congratulate myself for having a show with no backdrops or large props while watching the other guards and drumlines try to load & unload their trailers in the howling wind

I would GLADLY pay a subscription for a standalone Capital Weather Gang. I remember the bygone days before they were acquired by the Post, and they were the main reason I stayed a WaPo subscriber as long as I did

REJOICE! It is above freezing in DC. πŸ’ƒπŸ•Ί

Just barely, but it counts.

233 hours at or below freezing, now concluded with a 2p of 33. This ends a 9-day streak at or below freezing. It is tied for 5th longest on record since 1872! Only second time this long since 1936.

Also a shout out to the stupid sub in my next class who thought she could order us to not think about it who was dumb enough to send myself and Saavik to the library to research 'our report', which we gave as soon as we returned to class and she'd sent the next 2. Can't stop the signal...

40 years ago today.

I was in my Chem class with an instructor who had applied for the Teacher in Space program when we got the news. To this day, I can still smell that room when I think of that day

Foam earplugs that you squish into your ears are better than nothing! The thing I like about Loops is you can filter--and you don't lose all your auditory situational awareness. Proper safety earmuffs are great for cutting out loud noise, but they cut out everything else too

Here's Why Earplugs for Concerts Are a Must (And Which Ones Actually Work) Our team of product and music editors test and review the best earplugs for concerts, including picks from Loop, Vibes, and Decibullz.

I have two sets-a Loop Switch 2 for indoor and a Decibullz for outdoor. www.rollingstone.com/product-reco... is a decent writeup with links and pictures. I'll add that most of the directors I know are wearing Loops.

Do not wear noise-canceling headphones in a loud, crowded, and chaotic situation. Buy a *good* set of reusable earplugs and keep them with you. Signed, a 10 year band and drumline mom and current Winterguard coach

Not sure what is falling out of the sky right now, despite being out in it for the last 15 minutes shoveling. There's snow, sleet, graupel, and rain all at the same time. It's also 15 degrees and the wind is picking up. We had about 9 inches of powder snow before this mess started

25.01.2026 20:25 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 1    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

I had 30 snowbirds in my backyard yesterday before this thing hit. I'm still watching it cautiously, but so far OK. It's pure powder snow here, so the winds tonight are going to play havoc
