The thing I love about McCarthy is what I love about Hemingway: the text effortlessly slips between lyrical and then terse and punchy. I aspire to even a smidgen of that craft.

Cormac Mccarthy's scenic descriptions are so stylistically abstract that sometimes I can't actually picture them in my head. But the writing itself makes the brain tingle, and I feel rewired in some small way. I think only literature can do that.

While I agree that the Jackson films are objectively good, to me, they just aren't accurate representations of the Tolkien books. My first exposure to The Hobbit was 6-7yrs old. I read LOTR at 13-14. I just see something completely different in my mind's eye (even now on a re-read).

A nice piece of folk horror!

ONE BATTLE AFTER ANOTHER was another wild PTA epic, but you have to squint so hard to see any of Pynchon's novel in it that it's basically an original work all its own.

In anticipation of my Sunday screening of ONE BATTLE AFTER ANOTHER, a rewatch of INHERENT VICE. Damn, this one gets better every time I watch it. Five out of five.

I'm absolutely hoping that 3I/Atlas is an interstellar craft from a superior intelligence because, come on, someone needs to be the adult around here.
