Both Northern Ireland and Ireland's Climate Acts are highly prescriptive laws.

Although there are important differences, both climate laws place a heavy emphasis on land use change as a key method of meeting legally binding emission and adaptation targets. ⬇️🎯

EJNI co-signed this letter calling 🗣️ on the Commission to reverse their decision to withdraw the European Cross-Border Associations (ECBA) Directive.

The Rule of Law is under attack and there appears to be no urgency to address ongoing violations of International & EU law.

The EU Omnibus package and simplication agenda has significantly watered down EU environmental legislation despite legal bases that prohibits such regression.

Fantastic side event today at the 8th MoP of the #AarhusConvention on "Regression, non-regression and the conflict of interest in #ClimatePolicy".

Thanks to all the speakers on providing important insight into rising environmental rollbacks at both national and EU level.

While we welcome an agreed 2040 climate target: a 90% reduction in emissions in comparison to 1990. The reliance on international offsets and emergency breaks for carbon sinks means that the reality of this target is lower than 85% ⬇️ Choosing flexibility over fairness...

Last night the EU Environment Ministers and EU Climate Commissioner reached an agreement on the 2040 target 🎯 & an NDC for 2035 just in time for Bélem where countries are expected to submit ambitious 2035 climate targets.

What does this mean?⬇️

Ireland is yet to produce a draft #SocialClimatePlan. The consultation process that closed on the 23rd of October fell short of the inclusive and iterative participation model envisaged by the Social Climate Fund Regulation and Commission Guidance.

No plan 🟰 No meaningful participation
