My main role in life is parenting. I have two young adults (25 and 21), each with "disabilities" or challenges. It's been great watching the tiny babies I birthed become amazing, smart, loving people. In 2024 we adopted a wonderful young woman too (#3).

By the way, this diggers between expressive and receptive language skills is also true for people with Down syndrome and other challenges.

I didn't realize that was an autistic trait. I've always assumed mine was due to my ADHD.

I don't use Chat GPT. I much prefer doing my own research, whether looking stuff up or asking other people. I've seen too many times when it was guiding people away from diverse opinions.

Part 2/2:

My sister is the sort to get quiet and speak with measured tones when he feelings get strong. When we're together the contrast makes me look even worse. Normally people tend to see whatever I am asking for as money grubbing, or vetting it off control.

Any ideas?

Sorry this is long...

I'm trying to figure out how to explain how me crying when my feelings get big (ADHD & Autistic) should be looked at the same as a neurotypical person's grimace. I need to be able to explain this to a layer, and maybe a judge when my dad's will is probated. (part 1/2)

He way you do it is how I've always done it. I usually take or hair elastics to then tie around the corner including the quilt adjustment duvet. Some covers even Jace tires secured inside to tie around the quilt cover.

So very true... My daughter is on an antipsychotic med for schizoafective disorder and without it for even a few days it's not others I worry about, but her.

I definitely prefer the look and usability of two columns over one.

I also found them a safe place to explore myself and the world. This led me to start a club at my middle school /high school library, learn how to repair books (which I've used ever since), and find a place where I was really appreciated when I felt like I didn't belong anywhere.

Also Finding Dory - same as Nemo, also that those who seem challenged cognitively (like my son with Down syndrome) can be successful, and working together can make amazing things happen.

Also, for TV shows I'd list Bluey.

It's already not failing or irrelevant. Keep posting, though, when you can. We need all the safe spaces and people possible.

That makes sense to me.

That does sound like a difficult combination. I expect you've had people not believe you about the diagnosis. You also sound a lot like me and my elder kid.

At least all the pieces are clearly here. That's almost a snub on the missing piece idea /image.

I hope you find some soon. I'm not deaf, though I am hard of hearing due to Covid, so my experience is likely very different.

That happens to me, though somewhat less than it used to(I'm 62 with lots of experience and therapy). It's part of why I've wondered, and mostly decided I also am Autistic.

I truly understand. I was very close to a girl two years younger than me when I was young. She had all the most serious effects of CF and died at 13 in 1976 or 1977. Her brother had a milder form. How rough for her parents. I still miss Andrea and I'm so glad this drug works for most people.

I love it too. Years ago I went on a BrontΓ« binge and read all their published works as well as two biographies.

Wow, your screen name is the same as my eldest's lifelong nickname!

Anyway, that sounds like a fascinating trip. I hope it goes well for you and you're able to add new great memories to whatever ones you had before.

That sounds wonderful. They should also get checked by a specialist in minimal brain injury. My eldest did after several concussions throughout school and we were told your brain never truly recovers all the way. Concussion damage is also cumulative. My kid had suddenly developed a stutter.

Many of us, many people in general, spent years of their lives caught in the web mental health issues often form. Those years can't be regained for anyone, but look at your life now. It's partially built on the experiences and thoughts you had then. Congratulations on making it through.
