Eliminating industrial carbon pricing would undermine competitiveness and Canada's climate progress Industrial carbon pricing is the most important policy Canada has for cutting carbon pollution and creating a competitive clean economy.

Why cancelling industrial carbon pricing would hurt not help πŸ‡¨πŸ‡¦ companies:
β˜‘οΈ creates uncertainty for businesses + investors
β˜‘οΈ jeopardizes $5 billion in credit values in Alberta alone
β˜‘οΈ undermines Canadian exports to priority trading partners like the UK + EU. Details πŸ‘‡ #cdnpoli

President Trump and EPA Administrator Lee Zeldin have launched an unprecedented attack on the EPA’s mission to protect the environment and public health.

Their plans include repealing standards vital to combatting the climate crisis and shuttering the EPA's environmental justice office.

Not long ago coal provided almost 40% of our electricity.

Today it is 0%.

Coal’s decline was achieved without switching to gas, driven instead by renewables & demand reduction.

Wind and solar experienced massive growth as coal entered terminal decline.

Hmm. Doesn't sound good:
"land and oceans are drawing down past emissions. That means they cannot be relied on to also neutralize future emissions. ... it’s redundant for countries to claim credit for CO2 for work already being done by land and oceans. Those emissions are already spoken for."

Stop emissions, stop warming: A climate reality check Why future warming isn't as "locked in" as you might think

On The Climate Brink: Stop emissions, stop warming: A climate reality check

This is a crucial point because it determines how much warming is already "locked in" and effectively unavoidable.

The answer is very little warming is locked in.

Removing carbon price from gas heating would increase emissions A chorus of provincial and federal politicians has called for extending the carbon price exemption for natural gas to heat homes as well.

Turns out adding gas heating to the carbon tax exemption list would not just increase emissions - it would leave households considerably worse off than leaving the carbon price alone. Especially here in the prairies. πŸ‘€ climateinstitute.ca/removing-car...

This is the challenge we face. The global stocktake, the accounting of climate progress completed for COP28, shows that pledged actions (red) are finally bending the emissions curve, but not sharply enough for a good chance of achieving the Paris goals. We need the guts to tackle those steep slopes.
