Beware Trump’s Talk of Coming β€œEmergencies” Far-right rhetoric is suffused with dark talk of impending calamities. It’s a favorite trope of autocrats who are, themselves, the calamity.

"They have borrowed directly from Nazi sources to make the very same points that the Nazis were making. They understand very well that the way to establish a form of government that is not bound by law or reason is to declare a state of emergency." https://trib.al/oj9zJgE

He graduated college last year. And has no known national security expertise.

But he did work for the Trump campaign.

This has always been the GOP's strategy:

1) Cut taxes for the wealthy & corporations by claiming they'll pay for themselves.

2) Explode the deficit.

3) Demand cuts to vital programs that help millions.

4) Repeat.

They're trying to get away with it again.

I agree with Speaker Johnson.

No one should wonder whether a lawmaker is advancing their own financial interest or the public interest.

It makes no sense for lawmakers to own individual stocks. Just ban it.

Members of Congress shouldn't even have the appearance of conflicts.

60% of American households can’t afford a minimal quality of life.

Meanwhile, the 19 richest households saw their wealth increase by $1 trillion in 2024 β€” the biggest one-year increase ever.

Our problem isn't a lack of resources.

Our problem is ever-expanding inequality.

Veterans know about trust - how trust is given and how trust is earned.

Our nation continues to face a crisis of trust - and all of us can and must take action to change that.

To make matters worse, importers are leaving inventory in China ports. Waiting for tariffs to be lowered. If they are lowered enough, there will be a crush to ship them here and transport them when they get here. That will drive transportation costs way up. = More inflation, post tariffs

So Trump finally reaches the concepts of the framework of a trade deal with a country that we actually have a trade SURPLUS with. In Trump’s vernacular, WE have been ripping THEM off. So now we help them reverse that so we can run a deficit with them. Brilliant.

The Disturbing Rise of MAGA Maoism Trump seems to be ceding the future to China while emulating its past.

β€œTrump’s approach to countering China has been so scattershot, so inept, so face-smackingly absurd, that it sometimes seems like a covert policy to destroy America’s reputation,” @dkthomp.bsky.social writes:

Not to be too pro technocrat, but it is astounding how much this country depended on the selflessness of like a few hundred thousand highly educated public servants who, for peanuts, made sure our food and medicine and environment etc were safe. And in return these servants were demonized.

DOGE aims to pool federal data, putting personal information at risk A centralized system with unprecedented access to data about Social Security, taxes, medical diagnoses and other private information would create vulnerabilities, experts say.

I genuinely think the biggest story out of DOGE is not the chainsaw cuts to everything but the creation of a massive, digital AI-driven panopticon.

THE PENTAGON BUDGET JUST HIT A TRILLION DOLLARS.

Not a single pundit from either political party said β€œhow are we going to pay for it?!”

Don’t dare tell us we cannot ALL have healthcare, housing, and education.

DOGE initially promised to save taxpayers $2 trillion.Β

Now it admits it's only delivered $160B in cuts.

And even those minimal savings are nearly wiped out by the cost of implementing DOGE's cuts: $135B.

We're losing vital government services for basically nothing in return.

Tyrants view educated citizens as their greatest enemy.

Slaveholders stopped the enslaved from learning to read. Nazis burned books. Dictators censor media.

That’s why Trump is attacking education, science, and the arts – to prevent us from learning.

It's Fascism 101. [Cartoon by Adam Zyglis]

I went to the Senate floor to tell a story about Trump’s first 100 days - a story of daily, norm shattering corruption.

I laid out 40 different corrupt acts - each one alone could have taken down previous presidents.
