08.07.2025 15:08 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0I can't help geeking out about technology, especially when it overlaps something else I enjoy like #woodworking. If you use Sketchup, and a Quest headsets, there's an app that lets you view your projects in VR. Imagine being able to set up a virtual gallery that your potential customers could peruse
08.07.2025 15:07 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Working on a chessboard. Looking for opinions on the pieces. These are prototypes, but they are the size the finished pieces will be.

If the US takes direct military action against Iran in the next few days, I most likely will be back out anti-war protesting again this weekend, whether there's one officially organized or not, even if I'm out there alone.
18.06.2025 01:25 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0I haven't had a chance to really use it yet. But it seems solid.
05.06.2025 12:47 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Came with it. I'm surprised yours doesn't have it.

Yeah, her name was Liz Cheney. She got voted out for standing up against the TACO tyrant.
29.05.2025 23:56 β π 5 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0I'm making it for a friend who does glass blowing. They're going to put something up there, but I don't know what. I don't think they know either yet, until they see the finished piece.
28.05.2025 15:59 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0I need some opinions on how I should proceed with this project!

An experimental piece. My very ugly lamp.

Also super proud of cutting my first sliding dovetail and having it work! It's too loose for joinery, but it's good for the drawer slide, which is what it's for on this piece. #woodworking
13.05.2025 13:56 β π 4 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0I'm proud of the little drawer catch I designed. The drawer slide is constructed of wood, and I didn't want it to just come out without some kind of stop. It's just a rectangle that hits a dowel on the side of the drawer slide. You can just push the drawer in, and it will reset. #woodworking
13.05.2025 13:56 β π 5 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0The angles for the trapezoid cabinet are close, but not perfect. For a proper piece, I'd spend more time, or go back and recut the pieces. Or maybe cover up the goofs with a veneer trim. Gluing that up was a challenge. I glued the sides and top first, cutting the bottom to fit. #woodworking
13.05.2025 13:54 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0I tried out some new techniques, some of which didn't work so well, LOL! Notably, trying to do floating tenons without a Domino on heavily angled surfaces. I ended up going with splined miters. I decided to use a contrasting color for the splines, and I like how it looks.

Well, I believe it's done.
This was a study piece for me. Midcentury Modern end table. It's made of Poplar - which I'm liking more after this project. I'm not a fan of the greenish hue it tends to have, but apparently after cutting and finishing, it warms up to a nice cocoa brown. #woodworking
Hey, @vicedrhino.bsky.social. I thought this story might interest you.

Well, that's one way to get around not owning a domino...

It's not a full cosmetic restoration, but it's sweet nonetheless. It feels only proper that it should have type-accurate parts. This one is a Type 11, made between 1910-1918.

Taking a broader view paints a much less impressive picture. But it's trending in the right direction.

This is called "brain drain". It happened in Germany sometime in the past. Mid 20th century, I think? I'll have to check, I could be wrong about the timing.

Europeans still have plenty of misinformation to deal with. It's not just an American problem, it's everywhere.
This is how Brexit happened, after all.
Not to be out done by our former colonial masters in anything, America then said "Hold my beer."
