The face on the homepage of Heritage Open Days (Englandโ€™s biggest history & culture festival) looks familiar ๐Ÿ‘€

My pre-event to mark the coming centenary of Princess Irene Duleep Singhโ€™s tragic death by suicide in 1926.

Grateful to all involved โ€” and to @samaritans.bsky.social for their support ๐Ÿ’œ

Portrait of Dr Jane Goodall

Portrait of Dr Jane Goodall

We are saddened to hear of the death of Dr Jane Goodall, who was awarded an Honorary Degree from Southampton in 2019.

Dr Goodall was a committed conservationist and a world-leading expert on chimpanzees.

Her dedication to her work was inspiring.

A short tribute to my dad, Phil Chambers โ€” the inspiration behind Access Heritage. His fascination with stone circles echoes in a folklore study I discovered exploring these โ€œspooky stones of folk horror.โ€

Thanks for sharing this, @profdavidturner.bsky.social โ€” I found his story really moving. Living in a converted mill up North in Calderdale, and the fact my dad was paraplegic and a disability rights activist, it resonated deeply. I hadnโ€™t heard of Dodd before, but Iโ€™ll make sure heโ€™s remembered! ๐Ÿ™‚

The right side shows two vertical strips of photographs - the left strip displays Chester's historic Shot Tower, a tall cylindrical brick tower, and the right strip shows modern residential buildings with orange/brown cladding and balconies. At the bottom is a white section with "12-21 September" in blue text on the left and the Heritage Open Days logo (pink castle icon with blue and pink text) on the right.

Max Hastings in The Times today does one of the best jobs so far of properly chronicling the USA's breakneck descent into fascism. I don't think a single person will be aware of *all* the evidence. (I know about paywalls & the mixed records of all pundits so please don't feel the need to remind me!)
