Unless you have a challenging roof, they don't need to visit - ours all just used online maps to calculate sun access etc.

First physical visit was the actual installation.

Just like the EV rebate (RIP), i think a subsidy of even $5k would be all you'd need to push solar well over the line.

I wouldn't be in a big hurry to drive down installation costs as they are already pretty good and you don't want holes drilled in your roof by the lowest bidder...
