The Exciting Instruments evolution:
2016: Tim has a problem - he can’t afford the solution
2017: First smFRET instrument built in Tim’s lab
2021: The company was founded
2022: The first EI-FLEX instrument installed
2024: EI raises funding to speed up growth
2025: Today, we are a team of 10!
In 2016, @timcraggs.bsky.social had a problem:
He needed an instrument he couldn’t afford.
So, he built one!
His mission:
→ To democratise the smFRET method and make it accessible to as many labs as possible.
In 2025, Exciting Instrument is speeding up (exciting announcements coming up!) 🚀
Summer project with EI-FLEX | smFRET project
Student’s outputs from 10 weeks running smFRET experiments 👇
In 10 weeks she:
→ Got trained on EI-FLEX
→ Carried out 100 smFRET experiments
→ Produced data that is contributing to multiple papers
AND, she demoed the instrument to an investor with great success!
