this is not a bad thing, it just means my goal of making a world and campaign setting for dnd in which all the rules in the phb and dmg have in-universe explanations will likely never happen. i guess im better at one-shots anyway.

the dnd rules work because they have explanations within the forgotten realms and greyhawk and ravenloft (and others) which themselves have been created organically alongside the different editions of the game.

i try my hardest to make everything about the worlds i create make sense internally, i.e. consistency and verisimilitude. this is practically impossible if i also try to make the cosmology, linguistics, pantheon, magic system, etc. play well with the dnd rules.

i've been working on worldbuilding a new dnd campaign setting for about a week now and i've run into the thing that always trips me up and makes me lose motivation. dnd's rules were not created methodically, they were created organically.
