The hull is painted red with gray and black stripe under the pilothouse. The superstructure is white, and the stack is silver and black.
But if that wasn't enough I also got to capture my favorite ship on the lakes, the M/V ๐๐ฐ๐ฉ๐ฏ ๐ ๐๐ถ๐ฏ๐ด๐ฐ๐ฏ. Though a much less exciting ship than the other two I just love the way that Great Lakes Fleet paint looks on a classic laker.
26.06.2025 00:58 โ ๐ 3 ๐ 1 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0Two large freighters meet on a calm river under blue skies. The ship on the left, the Tregurtha, looks much older, with a small pilothouse forward, a long cargo hold with a crane-line unloading boom, and an aft house with the stack at the rear. The ship on the right, the Cort, looks much more modern, with a tall blocky pilothouse forward, a long clean cargo hold, and a tall blocky aft house at the rear. In the background the buildings of the Canadian city of Sault Ste Marie can be seen.
Yesterday I had an absolutely amazing day in Sault Ste Marie, I was able to photograph all three of my favorite ships on the Lakes. The highlight was this bucket-list shot the M/V ๐๐ฆ๐ฆ ๐ ๐๐ณ๐ฆ๐จ๐ถ๐ณ๐ต๐ฉ๐ข meeting the M/V ๐๐ต๐ฆ๐ธ๐ข๐ณ๐ต ๐ ๐๐ฐ๐ณ๐ต on the St Marys River, just downriver from the Soo Locks.

It's great to see the big steam groups take the jump into getting their locomotive's fitted with PTC. It may take a good few years, but we'll definitely see a big resurgence in big steam operations.

It moved fast passenger trains but not quite in the way envisioned, and was simply too big in many aspects despite its speed. While not built during wartime (for the US) the conflict effectively gave the engine life, much like how liners are commandeered for war use.
Color photo of the first PRR T1 outside the Baldwin Locomotive Works. A group of men stand next to the engine Besides looking like ocean vessels with their prows and portholes, they were revolutionary but short-lived compared to their predecessors. They were the first to use a new propulsion method as standard (after being tried on smaller examples) which further optimized them for high speed and long range.
Black & White photo of the PRR Q1, presumably right after its completion at the Juniata Shops. Note the number plate is on the pilot shrouding Launching alongside the dreadnoughts, its capabilities lie somewhere between them and the slower but sturdier armored cruisers. Was excellent in showing up older machines but couldnโt hold its own well against more powerful designs.
Black & White photo of the first PRR Q2. It has recently entered traffic as it bears the markings of its allocated enginehouse (WN - STC for Western Region - St. Clair Columbus) What seems to be a regular freighter has an underlying purpose for being. Designed with extreme power and slightly higher speed, what you see is likely another element in keeping the supply line going. Only problem is, its anticipated service never really came around .

A trio of Brass Suydam models of Interuban Electric Railway cars owned by the Southern Pacific in HO scale (1/87) which I'm rebuilding at the moment. They're running on my own model railroad, the Alat California.
An ALCO RS-1 I kitbashed poses in front of Mexican vernacular homes on my layout set near Guaymas, Sonora, Mexico in 1968. Check out the little bicycle on the locomotive's walkway.
Work in progress show of the redwood forest & hand painted backdrop I'm doing for one of my clients. This layout is called Anchor Bay, and is set in Northern California in 1948.
I have my own railroad I've been building models and writing lore for years: the Alta California Railway, which connects Guadalajara with Oakland California from 1927-199X. I model the late 1960s.
