They have improved that dramatically in v20 that's in beta right now (pretty much just pick your microphone and press record), but previous to that, yes, it's stupidly complicated.

Well to be honest, you’re time was well spent because I think my main conclusion from making that video is you’re better off making mixing decisions manually because you’ll probably be fixing most of the changes the new AI tools make!

Start with the free Beginner’s Guide about half way down the page
When you save a custom preset it should be its own preset at the beginning of the list. If you click on custom again it will indeed go back to a blank custom one but scroll a little further left and you should find the one you saved
