Our best years were behind us, Tommy Docherty had come in and cleared out most of our 70s legends, he was largely blamed for the near death of the club but in truth we were in decline before he arrived.

Iconic players of the late 70s early 80s, our forward line, Biley and Swindlehurst, they would have done well but we had a struggling team and the club was on the cusp of financial collapse, not for the first or the last time !
