I started watching AEW toward the end of the Outcasts run and I hated it. I dreaded every match they were in because it was always the same thing. I never would have imagined she would one day break out of the trio and become my queen.

Weird how when I read back over my own writing everything seems to flow so naturally on the page, but I can still remember how much I struggled getting it there. It's such a weird disconnect, how much effort it takes to make it look effortless.

I'm planning to start going to weekly knitting nights at my LYS again. The ladies there tend to be the activist type and it's dangerous for me to engage with current events without a tangible sense of optimism. Hopefully they can direct me to a place where I can be useful.

I need to free myself of the notion that for a story to be "legitimate" it has to look like other stories I've read. I just need to write the story I wish existed, regardless of whether or not other people would want it to exist as well.

I just really like merpeople. Like a lot.

And that can go in all 𝘴𝘰𝘳𝘵𝘴 of different directions. Worship, resentment, indifference, fascination, or disgust with the humans who brought them to life, or the reality of their origins being lost to time as they develop various belief systems of their own for where they came from...

I like this because it then leads to this entire species of people who just found themselves existing in a world not built for them because of people who don't even realize they created them, and now they have to find a way to live.

Kind of SCP anomaly vibes. They make no biological sense and fly in the face of every known law of physics, and yet they insist on being here anyway. What are ya gonna do?

Currently I'm rocking with the idea that merfolk were manifested by the collective belief generated by all the stories humans told about them. They weren't, and then by sheer popular will, they were.

Now, merfolk not eating fish because they share a connection with/can talk to them? That's totally reasonable. I can get down with vegetarian Ariel not wanting to snack on Flounder's cousins. But the cannibalism thing makes no sense.

Besides, even fish aren't related to fish. It's such a diverse and disconnected group that we probably have more in common with goats than a grouper does with a mackerel.

"Well they're half fish" yeah and we're 100% mammal, what's your point? I mean, what do you think carniverous fish eat?

I'm usually pretty live and let live when it comes to merfolk takes, but one idea that's always baffled me is that merpeople don't/shouldn't eat fish because it's basically cannibalism. It makes no sense. That's like saying it's cannibalistic for us to eat cows and pigs.

Can I ramble about merfolk here? Is that a thing I can do?

So I downloaded American Truck Simulator to try and babystep my way into dealing with my driving anxiety.
