Women's History Month, Mapping courage, charting change: women who shaped our world. A photo of Mila Racine, Defender, Rebel, Hero. She defied the Nazis, smuggling Jewish children to safety during WWII. "In a world of silence, she chose to act. In a time of fear, she chose to save." β Inspired by Mila Racineβs legacy
Long post version: Mila Racine was a French Jewish resistance fighter who risked her life to save children during the Holocaust. Working with the OSE (Εuvre de Secours aux Enfants), she smuggled Jewish children across the border into Switzerland, defying Nazi persecution. In 1943, she was caught by the Gestapo while attempting another rescue mission with 30 children.
Deported to RavensbrΓΌck concentration camp and later to Mauthausen, Mila continued to exhibit remarkable resilience. In her final letter from RavensbrΓΌck in July 1944, she wrote: "I am looking forward to just one thing β that we will be together again." Tragically, she was killed during an Allied bombardment in March 1945.
Countless lives were saved because of Mila's selfless acts. For her bravery, Mila was posthumously awarded the MΓ©daille de la RΓ©sistance and the Croix de Guerre by France. Her legacy stands as a testament to selfless resistance in the face of unimaginable darkness.
#WomensHistoryMonth Day 3: Mila Racine risked everything to smuggle Jewish children to safety from Nazi-occupied France. Arrested by the Gestapo in 1943, she was sent to a concentration camp, where she perished during an Allied bombardment. Her courage lives on. πβ #Shero #NeverForget
