Is Volvo's EX60 the closet thing we have to the Apple Car? Volvo along with premium peers, slam the door shut on EV first-movers
Volvo Cars, presenting its new EX60, which is much more than just a new model, demonstrates that Western OEMs can finally lead the EV pack with profitable, non-compromised, tech-driven electric cars, ...
While Apple gave up on their car, or so-called, project Titan, have @volvo-cars.bsky.social just presented their interpretation of what could have been:

The story is that A/S tariffs will be dropped, and minimum prices will replace them, effectively at the same price point as the tariffs were adding, but the nuance is that OEMs will keep these inflated margins. I wouldn't call it a blow to Tesla

π©πͺ Even the premium-driven German new car market is seeing a regulatory-driven CO2 dive.
Average monthly fleet emissions across all new passenger cars fell below 100g/km for the first time on record in November... and below Spain!
π«π· France heads towards <80g/km

Great to see one of the auto industry's most prominent designers back.
Thomas Ingenlath returns to Volvo Cars, as Chief Design Officer, effective 1 February 2026.
He didn't make it far from Polestar, though, located down the road in Gothenburg, where he was previously CEO.

Tesla's share of the W-European new BEV passenger car market dips below 10% on a 12-month rolling basis for the first time on record.
Reasons?
Increased competition from incumbents introducing new product in line with CO2 targets
- Chinese OEMs entrance

I have it on good authority that they have been actively seeking to acquire heritage model designations from one OEM. That OEM was unwilling, however.

CitroΓ«n Germany has already begun advertising the German purchase subsidies, even though they won't begin until January
Price parity with ICE version would be achieved under some circumstances
That would bring the Γ«C3 to below β¬15,000 in some circumstances, or leasing with no Initial payments!

"Yet many drivers remain deeply wary of the autonomous car transition. It takes a human about 45 hours to learn to drive a car. Why, I ask, has the tech industry spent more than $100bn trying β and repeatedly failing β to replicate something we can master so easily?

BYD, without question, is producing impressive underlying growth this year, but is seeing a large chunk of that growth coming from unsustainable sourcesπ
Four-in-ten of its German new car registrations were recorded by their own/franchised dealerships, with just 12% ending up with private consumers

The fact that VW has delayed its usual strategic planning round likely has as much to do with the internal issues the company is facing alongside the European Commission's Automotive Package announcement, pencilled in for next week. Strategic planners might as well be sitting around a pool for now π΄
