I dont disagree ,best part of a new skill is exploring and being able to find out things on your own. My worries is after playing the alpha/beta i wasnt impressed and also i feel like the scope theyre trying to chase is way to wide. I hope im wrong and its really good though not super anti new skill

Technically you could just walk around and sell items to shops ect , but you feel like it's a waste . You could run back to alters and not use potions but you would feel like you're missing something

That's fair , when I say fundamentally overhaul it leans towards " what's the best way to do x " since they're leaning heavily on the multi skilling aspect I feel like the correct answer is always going to be sailing which gives fomo if you do decide to ignore it kinda how u said herb and magic are

I think the issue is having to interact with it at all. Easy to ignore new quests skilling methods bosses ect. It seems like sailing is going to be a very big overhaul of how the game works fundamentally
