I heard an interview with Mr. Doctorow where he outlined this idea. Glad to see it in print.

I’m no student of warfare, but this has been my thinking the past few weeks.

Agreed. Flexibility by default. Presence with purpose.

I’d love:
- more mixed-zoning
- mixed-income neighborhoods (more densification at that)
- I’d settle for any sidewalks
- commuter cycling infrastructure

Artificial traffic-calming measures are low on my list. I think I’d rather they be slowed organically by non driver use.

Like many things in Canadian politics, I’ve heard that Quebec’s language/labelling regs are a non-trivial obstacle.

Agreed that I hope the external monster lights a fire under people’s feet.
