"I remember your stories, yeah. She must’ve been pretty relieved when they took off your chains."

"Busy‘s always better than boring, in my experience." Diego looked down at him, finding this strangely nice. "But it does leave you pretty exhausted."

"Gonna make me all emotional, kid. How‘re you doing?"

Diego followed him and sat down beside him, stretching out his legs. "Tired?"

Diego reached out to scratch 'Houdini' behind the ears. "Cute little thing. Fast, though."

"Well look at that, Simon Blackquill. So you haven’t forgotten this old face, have you?"

"That does seem like asking for a vanishing act," Diego commented. He noticed a little scuttling in his periphery, bowed down and managed to catch the little escape artist just as he slipped out under the couch. "Gotcha."

"Sounds good to me," Diego agreed, strangely unbothered by this cuddle bug behavior. He got up and booped his nose as he moved past him.

Feel like I should get a discount in that case

Diego laughed, shaking his head. Everything was being taken care of, so he just stayed where he was, watching both Wrights buzz about.

Diego blinked, surprised. "…you took that apron pretty seriously, huh?" he commented then, grinning lopsidedly.

"Yeah, I suppose so." He finished up his drink as well now. "Well, looks like we got plenty of leftovers for tomorrow."

"Mmh. I don’t have a lot of those, I fear." And therapy was not exactly in the cards right now either. "Well, there is my sister, of course. But she is still… Mmh." He sighed, setting aside his empty plate. "That is something I ought to tackle first."

"That‘s good. Though you seem to be in a much better position again now, generally speaking. Mentally, too."

“I’ll bet.” He leaned his head in his hand to watch them. “Still kinda mindblowing, that whole story. Y’know, yours, I mean.”

”I used to think about it too, when I was young. That I’d have a couple of rascals of my own,” Diego pondered. “The whole marry someone sweet, buy a house, plant a tree sorta stuff.”

That was incredibly endearing, he had to admit that. “It’s a good thing you two found to each other, in that case. Family’s… Well, it’s something you gotta hold on to.”

"Being stubborn's not a bad thing. Think you guys are two peas in a pod in that regard," Diego pointed out, amused.

You certainly do. They don't really care for that sort of stuff either, though.

Diego chuckled, shaking his head. "We'll see. I got some other stuff to figure out first."

"Just hopeless old felons, I suppose," Diego chuckled. "Still not sure I'm the right guy for it, though."

Diego leaned his head in his hand, not really participating, but enjoying just listening to the two of them. It felt delightfully normal. Strange, just to be having dinner and not having to worry about someone pissed off wanting a piece of you.

If they ever even think about granting that guy parole, which I doubt but who knows with this system, I might have to break my promise, though.

Diego grinned at her. "Glad you like it. Guess I found a way to help out around here while I'm staying."

"I always find the simplest dishes to really pack a punch," Diego said, sitting down as well and getting himself a serving. "And you can never really go wrong with pasta."

Cause the law sucks. Wouldn't need defense attorneys if it didn't, y'know?

Diego looked back at Phoenix, taken by surprise at the kiss. Looks like he decided to get ahead of the game. Diego laughed. "Curious to see what I'm getting once you've actually tasted my cooking," he teased, waggling his eyebrows.
