7. The Wild Bunch (1969)
Last but not least, the Wild Bunch is a cynical western about the dying old West. What more could you want?

An Amish woman witnesses a crime and a cop (played by Harrison Ford) has to protect her. Plus, spot a young Viggo Mortensen. This film has one of the most romantic scenes of all time as well as a genuinely compelling and complex crime and fish out of water narrative

5. Night Moves (1975)
The late, great Gene Hackman stars in this absolutely gorgeous noir about a detective tracking down a runaway teen. It deals with themes of pedophilia and sexual abuse, so be warned, and this is a noir film, so don't expect to feel happy coming out of it

4. OSS 117 (2007)
A hilarious and homosexual French spy parody. The titular OSS 117 is a French spy sent to Egypt (a land he knows nothing about and looks down on) and hilarity ensues. If you like Austin Powers this is the better, less obnoxious version of Austin Powers.

3. Married to the Mob (1988)
This should be on everyone's watchlist just for how odd it is. A truly strange and entertaining RomCom with chemistry aplenty and great surreal comedy.

2. Black Death (2010)
A stacked cast, a wonderful premise of knights and a priest investigating a village that has somehow been spared from the plague... This film keeps you on your toes and genuinely delivers a really great story. If you like medieval horror, you'll like this.

If you like heist films, crime thrillers, and movies about really really really bad days, you'll like this.

1. The Trust (2016)
Worth a watch just for Elijah Wood and Nic Cage alone, tbh. But this is a severely underrated dark comedy with some psychological thriller aspects. Nic Cage is giving one of his most subdued and (imo) terrifying performances, where violence is always just a second away

While it had great performances, this felt too self indulgent and instead of a farewell to a great career and style, it felt like more of the same, but less well explained.

I'm sorry. This was just... Not as good as people said. It was entertaining but ultimately, hollow inside. Maybe it was too openly pro military for me, I am a Quaker, but I was turned off.

I need to rewatch Nope. I haven't seen it since it came out. And at the time, I thought it was good but not as good as Get Out, but I think I'd think different now. Even still, I'm a bit surprised it's ranked this high.

16. Asteroid City (2024)

For me, this was too Wes Anderson-y. It just didn't cohere and his style felt grating rather than charming. There was one extremely effective moment but the rest of the movie just weighed that moment and the payoff from it down, especially since it didn't end there

The biggest problem is that Furiosa just isn't as good or impressive as Fury Road. It's great and I loved it, especially in theaters, but frankly, it was a downgrade, even if it was still good. It's ranked too high, above much better projects.

36. EEAO (2022)
A truly innovative film that brought tears to my eyes. It didn't hurt that the immigrant grandfather in the film was a bit too close to my immigrant grandfather irl and man...

God this film is so amazing, on so many levels. The ending in particular is just... One of the best of the 21st century. If you like knights in shining armor or fantasy or really, anything, I recommend this, even if the pacing can be a bit uneven at points.

A genuinely incredibly touching and funny film on all fronts, even if the feminism was a bit flawed at points. I didn't expect to enjoy this as much as I did but through multiple watches it's stood up.

49. The Matrix: Resurrections
I don't remember exactly what I rated this film (pre letterboxd era), but I didn't like it. It wasn't a ressurrection, it was a Weekends at Bernie's with the bloated corpse of the Matrix. Not even the effects were good!

This above Sinners is wrong. I love mission impossible and I thought MI: DR was a wonderful capstone for the series while also allowing the series to continue gracefully. But it was not the best MI film and it dragged at points, even if the stunts were top notch

I loved sinners and the fact that it didn't crack top 25 AT LEAST seems criminal to me. For what it does sonically, it deserves to be in the top 100 of the 2020s, not to mention it's portrayal of history, acting, etc. definitely ranked too low at #65

This is another pre-letterboxd review, but iirc I thought this was a solid nationalistic blockbuster, but overhyped and, because of the nationalism, politically murky. But it was definitely a refreshing, entertaining watch, and I think it warrants inclusion

This musical deserves a place on the top 100 list IF just for how fucking weird it is. And it's committed to it's strangeness, far from being a gimmicky film, Annette came off as a bit too earnestly and honestly weird at times. Also, I didn't love the music

I watched this before I had letterboxd... But I remember my thoughts. The weirdness mostly didn't pay off for me and the dark humor mostly didn't land. I thought the performances were good but the writing was not quite so strong.
