text reads: BLACK HISTORY MONTH SAMUEL RUTH (1850-1937) Samuel Ruth was born into slavery in Beaufort, South Carolina in 1850. He experienced profound loss as a young age, when his mother was sold to another plantation. Following the end of the Civil War, he fled north with the rest of the first Black regiment - the 54th Massachusetts Infantry Regiment. He found refuge and opportunity with the Pinn family. Samuel later married Maria Louisa Pinn and settled in Chester County, Pennsylvania. They became landowners and raised twelve children. This, all to build a legacy rooted in resilience, family, and perseverance. More on their story next week.
