Secure Messaging protects sources against network adversaries by making their communication indistinguishable from data sent to and from the app by our millions of regular users. By using the Guardian app, readers are effectively providing 'cover' and helping us to protect journalistic sources.

Over the last year I’ve had the privilege of contributing to @theguardian.com’s Secure Messaging feature alongside my incredible colleagues. Launched today, Secure Messaging is a new way for whistleblowers to communicate anonymously with journalists within the Guardian news app.

Today we published the story. We identified 402 listings located on illegal settlements across the West Bank - 350 on Airbnb and 52 on Booking.com. These included 18 Airbnbs in outposts - settlements considered illegal under Israeli, as well as international law.
