I am afflicted with mild obsessions into subjects that annoy the hell out of people, and the annoyance of others just seems to make me more determined. A few years ago it was a blogpost on the labour intensiveness of Spitfire production that almost got me cancelled. Now it's Gothic literature

Another day feeling like I'm going backwards. Still struggling with a new publisher for the Fulmar book. It will happen but getting the same kind of deal I originally signed up to is proving tougher than I thought. Here's a colour scheme you won't have seen before - N1854 in temperate land scheme

Few things make me smile more than finding images of 20-odd-year-old kids who may have moments to live hamming it up for the camera.

Here are Flying Officers Ralph Moen and John Ross of 438 Squadron RCAF being kids, c. May 1944. Ross would be a POW within a month, Moen would be dead by August.

Loening amphibian aircraft from the 1920s, a bizarre looking contraption with a fuselage that looks like a rounded rectangular box with windows in the side, a float joined to its base but projecting forward, and an engine stuck on the top front corner of the box like an afterthought. The wings are normal for a biplane

The F-110A Phantom II on roll out from McDonnell Aircraft.

The Century Series went out with the biggest of bangs, the F-110A. Renumbered the F-4, the Phantom II became one of the most iconic fighters ever.

Join us as Joe Wilding and I geek out over the perfect fighter.
