Yep and I’m saying you could’ve done that without bringing him up and fawning over his skills. Personally I think you shouldn’t mention him at all without a caveat. Separating the art from the artist is only something we do for certain people and certain crimes. Worth thinking about.

Ooh my pet peeve is critics who hate horror but review it anyway

…so the movies can keep getting made and the creatives can be paid well and the theaters can stay open. Long live all the horrors!

I don’t tend to use that phrase too much, but if I do I mean it something in the vicinity of literally, to refer to movies with torture and related confinement and gore as occupying much of the plot.

I want all kinds of horror to exist and for people to enjoy and spend money on it…

(I disagree with your definition of elevated but my point’s not about that)

People who say “torture prn” are referring disparagingly to a subgenre they don’t enjoy, and every horror fan around them understands what they mean. (If you don’t, let’s talk.) Can people who use that term be horror fans if they like other subgenres? Or are they disqualified for being condescending

So if there’s a subgenre I don’t enjoy, I can’t enjoy the rest of them? That’s kinda what this amounts to.
