Most rural towns/villages in America were also constructed before cars were around. Also most houses in rural America do not have an acre of lawn. That's a stereotype based on mcmansions that more often are found in suburbs and exurbs. Most rural homes are not mcmansions.

I'm not opposed to any changes per se. I'm opposed to one-size fits all top-down dictates that removes personal freedoms, including the freedom of where to live and work.

Society already decides. This is about WHO in society gets to make that decision. It's not a great sign when a self-appointed decider includes "This will not be pleasant" in their marketing. Not a great way to incentivize.

Believe it or not, a lot of rural communities already have running water, grid connection, sewers, etc, which they themselves installed.

Does free will and freedom to choose where to live have any place in your vision? When someone says 'this will not be pleasant' it sounds kind of like 'some of you may die, but it's a sacrifice I'm willing to make'.

They weren't lies. We forget just how radical it was to found a nation on principles of liberty and freedom. Yes, the founders limited those who benefited, but they were not blind to the power of these ideals and that once unleashed could not be constrained.

The law isn't magical. It's merely an agreed upon set of rules and their enforcement. I'd love to see your magical thinking of how well our lives would be if everyone could do exactly as they please without any accountability other than whoever has the bigger club.
