Alberta government changes expense disclosure policy, removes eight years of records | CBC News Key changes to Alberta’s expense disclosure policy mean that the receipts of senior government officials, including the premier, will no longer be public.

Danielle Smith & the UCP have decided you don’t deserve to know how they’re spending your $.

The Friday before a long weekend, they removed the requirement for the Premier, Ministers & senior staff to publicly post their receipts.

They say it’s too much β€œred tape.”

I have a long argued that it might be necessary to professionally excavate a small representative random sample of some of the gravesites to verify the GPR findings. Not because I doubt the tragedy, but simply to help alleviate the remaining doubts of the wider public. Think forensic anthropology.

The response will be β€œthat isn’t evidence of abuse; they were just buried there because it was too far to send the bodies home.”

And they won’t recognize how horrible it is that the children died so far from their families.

The search is just in it initial phase, with much more work to be done, but what is clear is this: denialists sought to question the legitimacy of ground-search work as part of a strategy of undermining public confidence in truth and reconciliation work generally.

The Girl Guides Of Canada πŸ‡¨πŸ‡¦ are banning all trips to the US effective Sept. 1st! There’s too big a risk every girl in a troop will not be allowed through the border without harassment or outright denial. It’s just too dangerous!

Wait a god-damned minute:

β€œThis year the province has ordered only 485,000 doses, a 30% reduction. That means a quarter of the population, again mostly the elderly, that wants the vaccine will not find it available.”

Great system, guys.

I'm so sick of fighting the UCP
They were created solely to defeat the ABNDP, not to serve Albertans
& it shows
I'm tired of fighting for-
Healthcare
Education
Clean water
To keep our CPP
To continue being Canadian
Albertans have got to stop voting conservative no matter who

When Danielle Smith surveyed #Albertans about leaving #CPP:

63% voted to stay.

ONLY 10% voted to leave.

The UCP hid the results for 2 years until Alberta's Privacy Commissioner forced the disclosure.

@albertandp.ca will protect your #pension.

Idaho lost one in three obstetricians after its abortion ban New research confirms: Crackdowns on reproductive rights have harmful ripple effects across local health care.

Two months after the Supreme Court overruled Roe v. Wade, in June 2022, Idaho’s trigger ban outlawing most abortionsβ€”one of the strictest nationwideβ€”took effect.

According to a new peer-reviewed paper study, Idaho lost more than a third of its OBsβ€”94 of 268 totalβ€”afterwards.

Alberta cities face higher election costs this fall after province bans electronic vote counters | CBC News When the province passed Bill 20 last year, it banned the use of electronic vote tabulators. Now some cities are reporting election costs double or triple what they spent in 2021.

Seriously. Many municipalities have used machines since 1990s with increased efficiency, reduced cost, and greater reliability for elections. There are no real communities that distrust the vote counting machines. Just a few fringe, right-wing conspiracy theorists at work.

When Michelle Obama wanted to make school lunches healthier, the right screamed about β€œfreedom”.

When RFK Jr says poor people shouldn’t be allowed to spend tax dollars on soda, they cheer.

It was never about health. It’s about control, punishment and discrimination.

DanielleSmith made it clear that she’s on the side of the separatists. Today, Smith and Minister Amery instructed government lawyers to oppose Elections Alberta’s reference of the separatist’s ballot to the Court. #ForeverCanadian lawyers and I will be in court tomorrow. 1/2

All Smith has done has tipped the scales in favour of the separatists. First, she lowered the threshold for a referendum, while forcing #ForeverCanadian to sign up almost double of signatories. Now, she’s supporting them in Court at taxpayers expense. 2/2

Americans are relearning the lesson we learned during the Gilded Age of the late 1890s, when robber barons ran the government and the economy for their own benefit: Oligarchy is incompatible with the common good.

I'm hopeful we'll respond with a new progressive movement.

I’m thinking of my friend John Lewis today on the 60th anniversary of the Voting Rights Act.

John was severely beaten by state troopers on the Edmund Pettus Bridge for marching for the right to vote. Those harrowing images shocked the nation and helped lead to the passage of the Voting Rights Act.

I am saddened to hear about the passing of former Alberta NDP MLA, Alex McEachern.

Not only did Alex represent the residents of Edmonton-Kingsway for two terms, his dedication to the party and advocating for the well-being of all Albertans remained strong his entire life.
