The BBC should be "impartial", but that doesn't mean refusing to make judgments.

A jury or a football referee should be "impartial": they should not be "partial", or prejudiced, to one side or other.

But that doesn't excuse them from making decisions. It's why we trust them to do so.

I like that his grand theory of 'hyper-realistic work-like activities' is just a corporate way of saying 'bullshit jobs'. I hope he has read David Graeber's book, at least.

Trump hates Europe’s democracies because they have universal health care, a strong social welfare system and heavy unionization.

He prefers MBS’s Saudi Arabia, where one trillionaire family runs a brutal dictatorship.

What a betrayal of American values!

This is the great pleasure of Bluesky. The true pleasure of it. When I look around, I see people who often took a big professional risk because they would not comply. In many cases, they had profiles they had built up for years. They let it go. They did this because they refused to extinguish their moral character.

They're all sorts. Actors, journalists, novelists, think tank types, MPs, ministers, artists. In many cases they're not people I would have had much faith in. Turned out I was wrong about that too. When the moment came, they did the right thing. They saw the ancient darkness, recognised it for what it was, and turned their back on it.

Now, when I go on Bluesky, I don't really see accounts or users. I see people I am terribly proud to stand alongside.

Thank you for this. Thank you to everyone here. Including the lawyers πŸ˜‰

Will the Fair Work Agency put immigration enforcement before workers’ rights? | Work Rights Centre

This is an important piece that's worth reading. Particularly, the role that new enforcement agency could play in encouraging abused workers to come forward.

I am not sure if the link you shared is working, so I am included the link from your website!

"I believe in restoring the dignity to the quiet, often invisible work of caring, of loving well, as we look to build a happier, healthier society.”

I couldn’t agree more.

🎯 Davey is spot on. "We can have criticism of the BBC, but within that, we need to recognise how valuable an institution it is [and how] precious to our country. And that's one of the reasons why people like President Trump and Nigel Farage, want to undermine the BBC." πŸ‘πŸ½~AA

Like why would the bbc need to β€˜balance’ its cover of the US in this way?

When the BBC covers, say, Xi critically should it also run a programme dedicated to the CCP’s achievements?

The men who raised the flags Nigel Farage says this summer’s movement was led by β€˜ordinary people’ expressing their patriotism. That’s not what we found

"it is striking how many of the key players we have looked into β€” the people who have gone out of their way to put up hundreds of flags β€” seem anything but ordinary."

It is way past time for the UK government & the BBC to get off X & for Musk to be treated as a threat to national security.

The world's richest man is using his site to promote civil war, ethnic violence & the overthrow of an elected government.

You won't win him over with another conference on AI

This, this, this. If journalists don’t scrutinize this and explain it properly now then they have failed on their duty and will bear a share of the blame if such policies are enacted (most of the public oppose them and don’t I think realise what is being proposed yet).

This podcast is one to be savoured! The ideas are brilliantly explained, yet so complex that require us listeners (myself at least) to pause, rewind and reflect. @sturdyalex.bsky.social please keep releasing episodes with generous spacing to give the time to absorb all of your amazing work!

This is thuggery from Trump and Vance, plain and simple.

They are bullying the brave true patriot Zelensky into accepting a deal which effectively hands victory to Russia. Unless the UK and Europe step up, we are facing a betrayal of Ukraine.

Thus far OpenAI & its peer scaling labs have sought to convince the public & policymakers that scaling is the best way to reach so-called AGI. This has always been more of an argument based in business than in science. 4/

And the data shows that most of the cost of the tax increase will be borne by a few very large estates. In 2022 2% of agricultural estates - just 37 - claimed an average of Β£6m.

That's what this is really about - not 70,000 farms. So let's drop the hyperbolic fake stats.
