Hating the Game
The cooperation game, the murder game, and acting in good faith with people you know are acting in bad faith.
The reality is America is a huge multicultural multilingual country, not a white ethnostate, and venomous white supremacist MAGA crybabies lose it whenever that reality becomes unignorable. We should always seek to increase, not decrease, their discomfort. www.the-reframe.com/hating-the-g...

Just a quick update from the Twin Cities. (Please forgive the unsolicited message). THINGS ARE NOT BETTER IN MINNEAPOLIS. The media is mostly moving on, Trump is focused on other stuff, BUT NOTHING HAS CHANGED ON THE GROUND. More than 2,000 DHS thugs continue to roam the streets, abducting people 24/7, assaulting legal observers with impunity, and routinely denying 1st, 4th, and 5th amendment rights. Drones and helicopters are overhead every day. Hundreds and hundreds of terrified families have not left their homes since mid-December ... relying on the community to bring them food and help with rent and other necessities. (Those people are NOT violent drug cartel sex offending murderers, as DHS would tell you. Most are legal residents or citizens.) If anything, things have just become more stressful and intractable (think trench warfare as a suitable metaphor): The resistance is better organized and numerous, but DHS has become more clever and better at disguise... and the county sheriff's office is increasingly supporting them . Do not let anyone tell you that Homans (the new person in charge of the occupation) is making anything better. Do not let anyone tell you that 700 ICE agents leaving the city has made much of a difference; the remaining force (again, ~2,000) is still larger than the entire city's police force (which is legally unable to do anything). Please call your congressional reps ... especially if there is any chance the administration might listen to them.
A desperate plea sent to me by a Minneapolis resident who's been on the front lines since the beginning of the ICE occupation:

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) โ Alberto Castaรฑeda Mondragรณn says his memory was so jumbled after a beating by immigration officers that he initially could not remember he had a daughter and still struggles to recall treasured moments like the night he taught her to dance.
But the violence he endured last month in Minnesota while being detained is seared into his battered brain.
He remembers Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents pulling him from a friendโs car on Jan. 8 outside a St. Paul shopping center and throwing him to the ground, handcuffing him, then punching him and striking his head with a steel baton. He remembers being dragged into an SUV and taken to a detention facility, where he said he was beaten again.
He also remembers the emergency room and the intense pain from eight skull fractures and five life-threatening brain hemorrhages.
ICE told nurses this Minneapolis man โpurposefully ran headfirst into a brick wall.โ
What actually happened is that they pulled him from a car, beat him so viciously with a steel baton that he had 8 skull fractures, 5 life-threatening brain hemorrhages, and couldnโt remember he had a daughter.

The G.O.P. Senator Who Canโt Stop Thinking About the Boy ICE Detained
Katie Britt is uniquely positioned to reason with the Trump administration โ when she chooses to speak up.
Representative Joaquin Castro of Texas said in a post on social media that he had picked up Liam and his father, Adrian Conejo Arias, from the Dilley detention center on Saturday night and escorted them to Minnesota on Sunday morning. He shared photos of the two on social media, including one showing Liam at the airport clutching what appeared to be a Pikachu toy and wearing a Pikachu backpack.
Mr. Castro was part of a delegation of Democratic lawmakers who visited Liam and his father at the detention center last week, where he said Liamโs father had reported that the child was โvery depressedโ and hadnโt been eating well since they were detained earlier this month.
This is a remarkable @nytimes.com split screen:
A huge 3,526 word + photos profile on Sen Britt who "can't stop thinking about the boy ICE detained"
But Rep Jaoquin Castro- who actually got Liam Ramos out of detention & back home- gets no interview, no pix, just 116 words inside a story. WOW.

It is really infuriating to see how misogyny really does unite men across the sociopolitical spectrum. And, in so far as the Epstein files go, they sort women into two categories: fuckable or irrelevant. When they near a hint of accountability they complain about not being able to make women prey.

Gov. Tim Walz has made some such analogies in relation to ICE and has been criticized for it, David M. Perry writes.
Historical analogies are arguments. So when someone makes an analogy between today and the Holocaust, or today and anything, think about they are really arguing for. What is the analogy trying to get you to do?

Resolution Calling for the Repeal of the Laken Riley Act
WHEREAS, the Laken Riley Act allows people to be jailed and deported based on accusation rather than conviction, tearing at the core promise of due process and normalizing punishment without proof; and
WHEREAS, the Act will rip parents from children, workers from their livelihoods, and survivors from safety-instilling fear so deep that families avoid hospitals, schools, and help in moments of crisis; and
WHEREAS, history shows that policies built on fear and collective punishment do not create safety, but instead fuel racial profiling, criminalize Black and Brown communities, and deepen the trauma of communities already targeted by state violence;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Minnesota DFL calls for the immediate repeal of the Laken Riley Act; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Minnesota DFL affirms that real public safety is rooted in dignity, due process, and the right of every family to live without fear of disappearance; and
BE IT FINALLY RESOLVED, that this body urges Congress and the President to pursue immigration policies grounded in justice, humanity, and the belief that no one should be punished simply for who they are or where they were born.
If youโre still at caucus read this resolution asking for the repeal of the Laken Riley Act.

I say this as a victim and as a lawyer and as a journalist and as a woman in public, no one, literally no one in power, cares about victims of sexual violence. This is why they promise women more police and prisons (allegedly to help them) while fancy men who are friends with Epstein go free.
