Comet A6 Lemmon's closest approach to the Sun is on November 8th, 2025. I took this image on October 29th showing a huge increase in activity around the core. A very zoomed in shot using a 16 inch telescope f/18, 7400mm focal length with Canon R6.

Damn Starlink. Was taking garbage out and admiring the sky and realized I hadn’t seen Musk for a while. Turned around and there they were.
Waved with double middle fingers extended and a ”fuck Musk!”

BICAN: A cell census of the developing human brain Building on their landmark efforts to create cell-type atlases of adult brains using single-cell and spatial genomics technologies, researchers in the BRAIN ...

Draft atlases of the developing brain of humans and other mammals are presented in a collection of papers from BICAN published in Nature. These resources combine single-cell and spatial technologies to track how brain cell types emerge, diversify, and organize during development. 🧪

A depiction of fluid passing a cylinder for different Reynolds numbers. When R is small, the flow is very smooth, but the larger R gets, the more turbulent the flow.

Physicists characterize fluid flows with Reynolds numbers, which compare inertial forces in a fluid (force from the fluid’s own momentum) to viscous forces (frictional from layers of the fluid moving over each other). A low Reynolds number means viscous forces win out, and the flow is smooth.

Typology of traps, how they can be avoided, and what goes wrong if not avoided. Note that all traps in a sense constitute category errors (Ryle & Tanney, 2009) and the success-to-truth inference (Guest & Martin, 2023) is an important driver in most, if not all, of the traps.

What can ionised bubbles tell us about the expansion of the universe? Early galaxies create bubbles of ionised gas around them. Measuring their sizes could provide key insights into cosmology.

Phyllanthus was once treated as yet another odd Euphorbiaceae. The unisexual flower & 3-part stigma fit, but they’re plesiomorphic*. We now place it in its own family, not esp. close to Euphorbiaceae. 📷: P. calycinus Philip Bouchard CCBYNCND2 #Phyllanthaceae #TropicalBotany #Botany 🌾🧪🌱

NASA's just-launched ESCAPADE mission is trying out a novel trajectory to Mars, one that's slower but allows much more flexible launch dates. The flight path also provides a bonus science session at the L2 equilibrium point near Earth. 🧪🔭

Apropos of nothing in particular, two cosmology questions for my followers:
- in the first figure, are the black or blue contours in better agreement with the pink ones?
- in the second figure, are the black or blue contours in better agreement with (w0,wa)=(-1,0)?
