04.03.2025 06:40 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0I found her insights on the comparison between spatial intelligence and language intelligence especially thought-provoking. While language intelligence has made remarkable progress with large language models, spatial intelligence presents unique challenges, as ...

03.03.2025 07:20 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Just to clarify, sometime a disrespectful email from the AC to the reviewer can be considered as a form on punishment! π
Also to further clarify, I have AC/SAC roles in conferences these days, but have seen such emails sent to my colleagues!
My #NIH review panel meeting got cancelled less than 24 hours before its meeting start. So crazy! I spent days to review my batch of 8 full proposals (R01)! Poor investigators whose grant proposals were being reviewed in the panel and many other panels cancelled in the past month!
26.02.2025 16:27 β π 3 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0I agree with your note. I am just trying to put myself in the shoes of someone who is seeing this unfolding, from outside!!
26.02.2025 16:22 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Indeed. At this scale, we are in dire need of better tooling.
26.02.2025 16:18 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0But, Christian, I want to also argue: if this is all volentary work, how do we justify punishing late/no-show reviewers? So are we saying late-reviewers are bad, but it is ok for PCs/ACs/SACs to be late because this volentary?
26.02.2025 16:16 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0And if you professionalize this, there is the risk of incentivising revenue and money-making, and losing the entire community, like how some open access and predatory journals are acting now! (outsourcing is even worse, because they don't understand the value of the science being published!)
26.02.2025 16:10 β π 4 π 0 π¬ 3 π 0The new administration replaced #DEI hires with #DUI hires. An step forward. Well done!

I keep thinking about the campaign slogan "We Are Not Going Back," which I didn't like....but it turned out to be prescient.
As in Orwellian 1984.
A tough road ahead to get us back on track. But we will.

08.02.2025 17:27 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0What tech company will be the first to stand up and say that gutting the NSF is bad actually?
The economic argument seems pretty clear
Less NSF --> fewer PhD students --> fewer researchers --> smaller AI tech pipeline --> slower progress --> less competitive globally
