What a lovely surprise, to see On Spec and Diane celebrated like this!
I attended ConSpec in โ98, after I moved back to Edmonton and was searching for community. I met Diane then, through the husby โบ๏ธ
I also recall it as my intro to @nalohop.bsky.social who was GoH. I loved all her panels! ๐ค

A post on Mastodon by small cypress (@small_cypress@indieweb.social): As an art teacher I was worried AI would come up as an issue of "why should I learn how to draw when I can use AI instead." But the real issue is that my middle schoolers CONSTANTLY believe all art I show them is AI. Digital art. Photography. Oil paintings from the Western canon. "A human couldn't do that" Being convinced that humans can't make great art is kind of terrifying
I spotted this on Mastodon and I find it horrible, not least for the speed with which this has happened.

Iโm doing rewatches of movies from โ90s to โ00s and I really miss some of the film design.
Voices are audible.
Scenes feel fluid. Location anchor shots.
Night scenes are VISIBLE.
Practical effects are so nice to see.
Plots interesting but linear (canโt feel the last minute edits)
This was a great day, hanging with fellow nerds and playing some games to support Edmontonโs most vulnerable. If you missed out, keep your eyes open for our summer game day. And as always, much love to @iamatrex.com and @catlinggun.bsky.social for the work that went on behind the scenes.

09.11.2025 19:40 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0I've seen this shared a lot... We all know it's AI, right?
09.11.2025 09:12 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0I will also note that these filters, as seems inevitable, wind up only filtering liberal leaning content. I have seen plenty of violent videos of ICE agents kidnapping people, despite pretty much every filter being on when I checked my settings. Apparently conservative violence doesn't count. ๐
06.11.2025 18:42 โ ๐ 1287 ๐ 197 ๐ฌ 3 ๐ 8Remember that people do abuse these tags to keep you from seeing content they don't like. You may think you don't want to see threats but conservatives flag anything hostile toward their Great Leader as threats, for example. Keep that in mind as you pick your filters.
06.11.2025 18:40 โ ๐ 1092 ๐ 159 ๐ฌ 3 ๐ 5This means if you are in the habit of saying things like "fuck Trump" or "I hope Cheney burns in hell", probably a good amount of your feed isn't seeing those posts because, unbeknownst to them, Bsky has shielded grown adults from "rude" "threats" like this.
06.11.2025 18:36 โ ๐ 2252 ๐ 447 ๐ฌ 13 ๐ 22I've toggled this off and hope it fixes my feed.
I constantly scroll through my "following" and start to get repeats BUT I can confirm I never see anything by some of my favourite people who I manually go visit their profile daily.
This is BS. If I follow someone, I want to see their posts.
First official snow of the season. If you have somewhere warm and dry to go to escape, you are more fortunate than the estimated 5000 people in our city who are unhoused. Bissell does incredible work in making sure those who need help have access to it.

I'm stubborn and will find what works best for me and have already kicked Spotify, but that takes time. Knowing what works best for how you engage is how you find what works for you.
I'd be all CDs and mixed tapes if I had the time.

In summary:
- Desktop apps may not work how you expect
- No Free version, just free trial & financial information required
- Transferring playlists can bear a cost
- Not all music available
At the end of the day, Spotify provides a simple experience and that's where the resistance is.
x/7
Tidal and Qobuz do not have a free version like Spotify - again confirming how subjective the transition is depending on how you use the platform.
I enjoy trying something to see if I like it before purchasing (not as a free trial, which requires inputting financial information).

I haven't tried the Tidal desktop app yet. I'd troubleshooted the speakers thing too long, and the Qobuz app froze frequently.
All I am saying is that folks SHOULD leave Spotify but sharing pros and cons for each app would help assist folks to easily find the best way to do so.
x/5
Then, I tried Tidal.
Because I tried Qobuz first I had to purchase premium to transfer my music because I'd hit the limit. ๐ซ
Sound was good on browser, but by then I was low on energy, so decided to see if they had the OSTs I listen to through the day. They didn't.
x/4
The Qobuz desktop app was unable to play from my laptop speakers, just a secondary headphone source. Reddit dive indicated this is common. I don't use headphones because I like to give my ears a break between meetings.
I also couldn't find many of the soundtracks I listen to while at work.
x/3
I've wanted to switch for a while but lacked the energy to research how. Last night I tried and it did not work for how I engage with the app.
I tried Qobuz first. Found a plan, free trial - great. Downloaded the desktop app, wonderful. Transferred my playlists. Easy?
Except, it wasn't.
x/2
I don't take issue with folks saying it's *easy* to switch from Spotify - however, I do think *easy* is subjective and slightly disingenuous.
It depends on *how* you use the platform.
