If things had gone differently.

Palaeoloxodon creutzburgi, one of the several elephants that used to live on Mediterranean islands, greeting a baby in an Ancient Greek vase. Small island elephants around the world went extinct around the time of human arrival, but I wonder, what if they didnโ€™t.

A somewhat-unfinished drawing of two brine shrimp circling each-other. They are pink and yellow with a purple circle behind them.

As an extra- I originally set out to do Brine Shrimp, but after much more struggle than I'd anticipated with the animal I ended up tossing the drawing in the end and replacing the prompt. For anyone who enjoys pink-colored brine shrimp, enjoy

A digital painting of a large, round, glass observatory. Out the windows we see whale sharks and manta rays, covered in golden/orange star. In the foreground, a girl is seen painting the whale sharks, and a small orange dog looks up at the scene from the other side of the room

Landback is about governance and stewardship, not European and capitalist notions of ownership.

Comparing it to Naziism is the height of settler anxiety, propaganda, and bullshit. Nobody wants to sink to your level guys. Stop projecting.

A Cushendall pony with a turf creel on a travoise. The harness and traces are all made of straw, plaited. There is an elderly woman standing with a very cute dog, outside a thatched cottage. 19th century photo of the NMNI

Well, don't think I already had enough coffee this morning to comment on Neolithic Snake Wrestlingโ„ข, but these loincloths (side note: among the figurines known from GรถbekliTepe & vicinity, mostly male individuals seem depicted wearing belts) may well be inspired by those #Catalyhรถyรผk murals, fwiw. ๐Ÿบ

#Archaeology๐Ÿบ isn't about dusty old objects in museum showcases - it's about reconstructing and understanding the past people's lives.

But to really bring those people back to life, sometimes it takes the pencil, the brush and the virtuosity of a real illustrator.

Two bird-like animals leap at one another. Their chests and wings are orange, their necks orange-brown, and their legs white. Feather fans project from their tail base and tail tips. They are surrounded by the bases of trees and framed against a hazy blue-green backdrop. Leaf-litter occupies the base of the image.

Leaping Balaur bondoc #paleoart for #FossilFriday. This image follows the interpretation that Balaur was an omnivorous bird, not a "double-clawed" dromaeosaur. The skull is unknown, so the head is based on Sapeornis. Originally created for the first @palaeogames.bsky.social book. #sciart
