I had a good reason to push to do it. Needed artwork for mum's next journal notebook. Must keep her supplied. Never two the same :)

A small bird with a long black tail. It has blush pink patches of feathers on the tops of its folded wings. Black is the base colour. The face is white and fluffy, with some black peeking through. It's perched on a winter bare plant stem.

My latest artwork is, "Winter Pink". A long tailed tit on a winter bare sunflower stem. Hand drawn in Procreate on the iPad from a reference photo I took through my window in my garden.

He has a droopy right wing that you don't see here. Lived in my hedge for the winter when he was injured. Is thriving and raising lots of blue-eyed babies now. Love to see him!

Thank you. I love my birds. I take all my reference photos myself. If each piece didn't take me so long to draw, I'd love to animate one. There's no way I could manage that though.

Detail of a European Starling's bright yellow beak and dark face with the eye in the centre. The image is in high resolution so that individual drawing marks can be seen. The eye is so detailed that you can almost see the reflection of my house from where the reference image was taken.

Here's a detail from the high-resolution image of "Starling in the Rain." Showing the way the image was created. I work with one brush for the main subject of a piece in Procreate. I always use Derwent Pencil. I work on a single layer in the same way I used to on paper.

Thank you. This one took me about three weeks. It is so worth it though. I love the photorealistic style I can get translating coloured pencil techniques into digital art.
