Disabled Labour MP says welfare U-turn would create β€˜unethical two-tier system’ Olivia Blake dismisses Starmer’s welfare bill changes as β€˜plucked from the air’ and urges rebels to stand firm

Olivia Blake makes excellent points, if only the leadership were prepared to listen! It's fabulous to see an MP with relevant experience speaking out. It's brave, necessary and shows up the obduracy of the Labour cabinet.

The Labour welfare rebels are right. This hounding of disabled people will damage the party for years to come | Frances Ryan Opposition is mounting and No 10 is preparing a raft of concessions. But whatever happens nexts, the moral stain will remain, says Guardian columnist Frances Ryan

Frances Ryan hits the nail on the head today: "Severely disabled and ill people are going to be starved, isolated and degraded as a result of this policy. No Labour MP who backs it should be forgiven."

This is the DWP news release about the changes to UC and PIP.

Abundantly clear that @uklabour have not spoken to one single person with a disability. I'm too ill to work. What would I use 13 weeks to plan for? How to eat air?

Awful thing for anyone to say but from EHRC commissioner it is unacceptable. Calling rights that have been exercised for decades "perceived rights" is designed to undermine any attempt to fight for those rights. If she has said this about any other minority group, she would be expected to resign.

Say no to the cuts!

Some of the most harmful changes are not part of the consultation. That is why it is vital to take actions like signing petitions, or writing to your MP.

Kier Starmer is both economically short-sighted and living in a moral vacuum.

PIP is related to the costs of disability, not whether someone is able to work or not.

Honestly fuming about what he is reported as saying 😑

This is a great example of why we can't trust Google's AI results. The plot described is from a different story (Unworthy of the Angel) in the same collection, last published in 2011. Yeah, now imagine you are googling a historical event older than 15 years ago.

As Labour touts more brutal cuts to benefits, how is this different from life under the Tories? | Frances Ryan There may be no nasty impulse to punish β€˜skivers’, but the end result – those who need help most hit hardest – is exactly the same, says columnist Frances Ryan

Labour's utterly crass take on social security for ill and disabled people will be causing untold worry even before any plan is set out. Pandering to the right wing press is irresponsible.

Mandelson will have to work with the US administration, so I understand (but dislike) the backtracking of the "danger to the world" comments, but, @teamlabouruk.bsky.social can we cut spreading blatant lies about the type of person Trump clearly is? It just makes Mandelson appear inept.
