However a good part of the in-memory tree database would be that
1. it's much more portable across platforms
2. doesn't require any platform-specific logic; C++ std::filesystem carries all the weight for that
3. It doesn't require having "watch descriptors" on Linux

re: recursive folders monitoring, I think this is somewhat easy to do on Windows, on Linux there's the inotify API, but I have no idea what there is on Mac OS X.

worst case scenario: I'd have to keep a tree in memory of the folder structure, which can get expensive fast.
