Watching the 2012 #anime #WolfChildren. So far it's a touching and sweet story; the part where the villagers all helped Hana become a capable farmer was especially nice, and the two children are excellently characterized. Very happy with this film.

Was going to work on my novel this weekend, but instead I saw a new anthology call, got inspired, and drafted 3000 words for that. All in all, I think it was a pretty good weekend. #amwriting

Saw #FantasticFour today and had a wonderful time. It's an excellent movie; I highly recommend it.

Went through an issue of Cirsova which had excellent pirate stories by J D Brink ("The Lion's Share"), Jim Breyfogle ("Blood and Bones: Caribbean 1945"), and Tyler Young ("End of the Golden Age"). I'm prepping to send in a pirate-themed work to Rac Press, so the reading felt apropos.

Going back through some short fiction today. Read an exciting #HighFantasy story, "Squire Errant," by Karl K. Gallagher, and also @katotis.bsky.social's absorbing Napoleonic #fantasy "This Day, At Trilbury." Will probably read some more shorts in the coming days.

I did that with another book. I'd like to try trad with this one. Let a publishing company focus on the things they're really good at, like the cover and getting the book onto shelves, while I focus on what I'm good at--making the text as good as possible.

I've got one out ("The Witch of Knightcharm", a #YA #ContemporaryFantasy novel) at Campfire, and I'm currently querying a second contemporary fantasy novel too.

Got the #darkfantasy story polished and out the door. Next I'm going back to the #highfantasy novel; I want to get draft 2 finished before going to #Quills next week. I think I have just enough time to get it done! #amwriting

Finished redrafting my #darkfantasy story based on what I picked up at #WritersCantina. I'll give it a fresh polish edit over the next couple days and then send it out. #amwriting

Based on what I learned at #WritersCantina yesterday, I think I'm going to do rewrites of two short stories that I've been working on -- the #darkfantasy one and the #golem one. I've got a couple ideas now which I think will make them far more compelling.

Had a great dinner with some other #WritersCantina presenters, including John Olsen, Jay Barnson, Julie Frost, and C W Holeman. It was fun talking shop, discussing current projects, and preparing for the conference tomorrow. #amwriting

Watched "The Big Heat," the #FilmNoire #movie directed by #FritzLang. I liked it. The story was compelling and the main character, Dave Bannon, was very well acted. Apparently Fritz Lang movies appeal to me; maybe soon I'll check out some of his other films, like M.
