child in the Roman Camp.”

What do you love about volunteering?

“There’s a real feeling of comradeship with my fellow
guides and assistants. I particularly enjoy researching
the subject matter of our tours. Plus, when you get
positive feedback from tour participants, it makes it feel
really worthwhile.”

Today, the museum is back where it started 91 years ago, in the Subscription Rooms.

#Onthisday in 1935, Malton Museum opened its doors for the first time!

Initially named the Roman Museum, it displayed artefacts discovered in archaeological digs led by Dr J.L. Kirk and Philip Corder at Malton Fort, Langton Villa, and Crambeck in the late 1920s and early 1930s.

Don’t forget - we are conducting our popular ‘Beer and brewing’ tour during the Malton St Clement's Festival on Saturday!

The tour commences at 11:30 am outside the Milton Rooms and will conclude at Brass Castle Brewery, where you are welcome to indulge in Malton’s brewing heritage 🍻

Our thanks to everyone who took part, to those who donated raffle prizes and baked cakes, to The Milton Rooms for being such accommodating hosts and of course to our Quiz Master Mr David Wells and his Assistant Mr Simon Green!

Thanks to the generosity of our players, bakers and donations, we made over £450, all of which goes back into supporting Malton Museum's activities, helping people to connect with their heritage.
