Wouldn't it be kind of cool if members took OPB back? Since OPB kind of depends on its members to sustain it, what if people understood how it functions? What if members actually had some role in its governance?

1. People are freeing themselves from the myth that only big corporations can make and do things. Here's a story about 19 small towns that built their own high-speed fiber networks. They pay less than most Americans & can get a service rep on the phone no problem. ilsr.org/article/comm...

the cycle usually goes like this:
1. Dems refuse to seriously challenge corporate power
2. The electorate gets frustrated, votes Republican, believes populist lies
3. Dems point out things are shitty, get re-elected, lack the backbone to challenge corporate power
4. rinse, wash, repeat

The last two fiscal years IRS 990 show @opb.org had a $17 million surplus. That surplus was never mentioned during their fundraising. I'm not a lawyer, but that seems like a violation of ORS 128.886 False or misleading representations prohibited.

Today, I stopped by the Charles Jordan Community Center, to check out the computer lab, wearing my @pdxlinux.bsky.social hat. I had a nice conversation with Derek, but learned that the Computer Lab hasn't existed since before the pandemic. So, I guess that means the City has ZERO computer labs.

Hey, "the cost of doing nothing" is my line. In Multnomah County, we are spending $500 million on telecommunication services EVERY YEAR. The high-ball CTC feasibility study estimate was it would cost $950 million (ONCE) to own our own network. #OwnDontRent
