I don’t want to click on this ad that appeared in my Apple News feed- is it AI? Click bait? Or did Idaho really move?

These eager beavers saved the Czech government $1.2 million After plans stalled for a new dam in the Czech Republic, eight beavers saved the day seemingly overnight. β€œAt this point, nothing that beavers do surprises me.”

2025 was mostly garbage, but there were some good moments.

One of my favorites was when a family of beavers built a dam in just a few days, saving the Czech Republic 30 million Czech koruna (US$1.2 million) for a wetland restoration project the government had been planning for 7 years. 🦫 🌿

Hivemind question: Palmer Penguins is doing great work avoiding overuse of Fisher's iris data. What other "dataset substitutions" do you like? Or just generally other cool, real, open datasets that are good for teaching because established methods work pretty well on them?

I have run into issues with too many images now being an issue with the pythonanywhere site- although that could be fixed I think. Django is relatively easy to deploy on pythonanywhere although it does depend on the database used I think.

I’m not an expert- so this may not be useful- but as part of my PhD I’m using Django to make my site- the uni deployed it: kuden.fabrics.anu.edu.au, but for testing I used pythonanywhere. Which is free for small sites.

Two of the universities in Canberra Australia put these types of banners in our uni emails automatically- it was really annoying when you were having an email chain conversation with someone from the other uni - it looked like a weird competition.

Hey #StatsSky, what are you favorite papers to cite when you need to justify something that is obvious (I once had a reviewer ask we justify the use of logistic regression on a binary outcome)
or when you need to push-back on silly reviewer requests (e.g., asking for p-values in table 1)?

The canoe voyage that redefined adventure and inspired a nation

sailaufilm.com I’m not sure if it’s streaming yet. I’ve just started Thor Jensen’s book about the voyage- it’s on Kindle Unlimited but the doc featured the 3 Milne Bay sailors and their views were the best.

My achievement for the month, getting the microscope camera software working again (or rather getting uni IT to get it working again). I took a photo of a pyroxenic placer temper, from a sherd found in Vanua Levu, to celebrate.
