The person who demands you agree today will demand that you die tomorrow if you agree. Your capitulation will never cure their shame, but only encourage their cruelty

Someone demanding you agree to vote for Newsom is demanding absolution, they feel a building shame and guilt for their complicity in this system but rather than self-reflect or reconsider, they demand the more victimized absolve them by agreeing that there is no alternative to that complicity

Every time someone describes Schumer or Jeffries as "confused" or "spineless" is to frame Dem politicians as a real source of resistance to Trump rather than as enablers, normalizers and force multipliers. This gives cover to Dems' gleeful participation in fascism

Donald Trump is the uncle that the Democrats know for a fact endangers their children and abuses his family but who they invite to all the reunions, functions and holidays anyway, shrugging and saying "he's family, what are you gonna do?" Enablers, they will ultimately protect him over his victims

But the discursive slippage between party and those who vote for it (see also: blue and red states) is itself a crucial part of authoritarianism. Any liberatory project must proceed from refusing to confuse the state and the people who live in the territory it occupies

The Democrats like to take advantage of a confusion btwn people who vote for them and the party itself, a confusion emerging from the history of mass popular party formations which at least gestured toward and approximated participatory planning, political shaping and local governance

Withou the active maneuvering and governing of the Democrats Trump would a) never have achieved power in the first place in 2016; b) never have reclaimed power in 2024 and c) have collapsed by now under the rank failure to organize and maintain the state.

Dems are one of the core pillars of MAGA

Voting is the only political leverage you have, which is why you need to promise to give your vote to the first person who says he wants it with no questions asked

C One of the nuts things about organizing in the Twin Cities right now is that even the most long term organizers who've been here for decades can't keep track of all the resistance that is going on. There are so many self-organized crews just doing work that in any conversation with someone from another neighborhood you might stumble over a whole collective of people resisting in ways you didn't think of. There's a crew of carpenters just going around fixing kicked-in doors. There are tow truck drivers taking cars of detained people away for free. People delivering food to families in hiding. So many local rapid response groups that the number is uncertain but somewhere between 80 and the low hundreds- especially when one considers that several immigrant communities have their own non-English rapid response networks usually uncounted in the main English-language directories. People standing watch outside daycares and schools. This whole resistance has so many poles of initiative and leadership, so many layers of self-organization, that it's extraordinarily difficult for the state to repress or for opportunists be they Democrats or movement-riding parties) to co-opt and control. Of course, that's built up through many years and decades of organization, and not only through explicitiv political campaigns or formations built during times of crisis and rupture like 2020. It is also built through day-to-day mutual aid, culture building, workplace and tenant organizing, and simple, basic relationship building among neighbors and coworkers here.
