Road danger in Ireland is getting worse and people on bikes are the victims. We need safe speeds.

Failing to fully implement of the 2024 law is a shocking evasion of responsibility.

We're 100% behind Love 30 on this.

Frankly it’s embarrassing how much George Orwell’s β€œ1984” gets wrong about 1984. The publisher should update it to be more accurate, e.g. β€œWinston heard β€˜Eat It’ by Weird Al Yankovic playing on the radio. β€˜I’d hate to be Michael Jackson right now!’ he said to Big Brother”

Geraldine Herbert: Cutting speed limits and changing our car-centric culture isn’t about restricting freedom – it’s about creating it Could a city with a similar population to Galway ever reduce road deaths to zero in a single year? It sounds unfeasible, but it can be done.

Great article from @gerherbert.bsky.social

"The cars that promised us freedom have left us stuck in traffic, inhaling fumes and created soulless city centres with streets designed purely to serve vehicles....

The choice is clear, and the time to act is now."

We call on the Department of Transport, on Garda SΓochΓ‘na, and on the Road Safety Authority to get behind this important change, counter any misinformation, and make sure all motorists are informed of the benefits of lower speeds.

Good news β€” Speed limits are going down.

Legislation was passed by the Oireachtas last year to allow reductions in speed limits from 50 km/h to 30 in towns, and from 100 to 80 in rural areas. Default speeds were TOO HIGH.

Reducing them is a vital step forward for road safety.

Instead of forcing kids to rely on their parents for every trip, cities can provide safe, connected mobility for all ages. This fosters early freedom and responsibility, shaping more independent, capable kids than those confined to car dependency.
