SLA had a great time touring the St. Paul branch of the Minnesota Tool Library. It was great getting to learn about this non-traditional lending library and its commitment to reuse and sustainability. We were also impressed by the number of fun and free events they host! 🔨

Our Progressive Librarians Guild had a great time touring the Quatrefoil Library in Minneapolis. We loved learning about the history of this queer library, as well as the variety of community programming they provide! 🏳️‍🌈

The department's Study & Snacks Event was a success, with seven students stopping by throughout the night. We hope to host another study session in late November or early December to prepare for finals, so stay tuned for that announcement! ❄️

Artificial Intelligence Tools For Use in Academic Contexts ...Understanding the Future, Today “I researched fourteen popular Gen AI tools, then populated my website with information about their strengths and weaknesses. On my site, I also included guidelines for craft prompting as well as citation guidelines for referencing the outputs of Gen AI in academic work. My site also includes video tutorials about the uses of each of the AI tools as well as news articles and other reading material about the future of Gen AI and its impact on the world. My hope is that my site will serve as a resource for individuals curious about Gen AI and its evolving relationship to academic contexts.”

American Library Association Student Chapter The St. Catherine University ALA Student Chapter prepares MLIS students to become active, creative members of the LIS profession by creating opportunities for students to make professional contacts and develop new skills, promoting involvement in professional activities outside of the classroom, and providing a local forum for the exchange of ideas and information relevant to LIS.

This week, we’re highlighting our ALA Student Group, which is an official student chapter of the American Library Association! ALA supports our students’ development as LIS professionals through programs, events, and service projects.

Special Libraries Association The Special Libraries Association Student Group is the MLIS program’s oldest student chapter. We aim to provide learning and networking opportunities for students who are seeking to explore work as information professionals in non-traditional library settings like businesses or nonprofits, as well as special academic libraries, government libraries, law libraries, medical libraries or other specialized information areas.

This week, we’re featuring our Special Libraries Association Student Group (SLA)!

SLA provides learning and networking opportunities for students who are interested in working as information professionals in non-traditional library settings or other specialized information areas.

Student Governance Organization SGO is the representative body for the MLIS program and serves as a mediator between the students, faculty, and the university. SGO organizes the graduate reception, student socials, trivia nights, and other activities in the program. They also make reimbursements available for professional development.

Alumni Spotlight Tiffany Ly Systems Librarian MLIS '23 "I really appreciated how much focus there was on social justice throughout my time in the MLIS program. I was able to do several projects and assignments related to things like digital accessibility, racial and gender bias in technology, foreign language access in cataloging, and equity and justice in library services."
