Currently at the local comedy night who is doing a benefit for the parish food pantry

They asked me to tell a funny story and I said “that would break the seal of confession”

We've been drowning in median voter theory nonsense for so long, trying to appeal to this mythical centrist vote, that I think it's become easy to forget that having courage in your convictions, standing up for them no matter what, will in some cases inspire even your enemies

A classmate of mine was raised LDS and became Episcopalian while living in VA. They asked the bishop at the time and he said “do it ‘just in case’ “ and suggested he get baptized and confirmed during a bishop visitation. And so it was done.

A group like this makes those conversations easier and can possibly happen sooner. Families members could be less estranged from one another.

My prayer is that the school board will reconsider their stance and concerned adults will come to greater understanding of the challenges our youth face. /!

Like everyone else, our youth and young adults years is where we figure that out. Much better to do it in an atmosphere of support than on one’s own.

The reasons why middle schoolers may not want to discuss their identities with their parents right away is obvious. 4/x

Some adults suggested this club would lead to indoctrination and grooming. I can assure you such things simply do not happen.

None of us ask to be who we are. We simply are. (3/x)

I wish the board had decided differently. People are coming out earlier. Having a healthy environment for youth to understand who they are is key to becoming a healthy adult and productive member of society. This includes heterosexuals as well as everyone else. 2/x

There is an article on Substack from a local news org about how a school district is requiring membership in middle school student clubs to students w written permission. HS clubs remain unchanged.

Why? A “gender and sexuality alliance” club was started at the middle school level. (1/x)

Our new Deacon is a Franciscan Tertiary, or Third Order Franciscan. All sorts of neat things happen when Dominicans and Franciscans work and serve together, so it will be interesting to see what God is up to. 😀

So … my parish is getting a Deacon! 🎶💕🎉🥳🎊🙌

This time between All Saints and the First Sunday of Advent (inclusive) is the part for the lectionary I call “Real Talk with Jesus.”

One thing about priesting in a small town it’s really important to go to a lot of town events in clerical if only to make an appearance.

I think of it as after hours coffee hour.

Apropos of nothing I was somehow privy to summaries of the conversations surrounding his departure from Harvard and the general theme was “why did we ever think he was a good idea for here?”

I remember a vestry meeting at another parish where we were thinking about how to diversify our investment fund. Someone suggested crypto.

Some discussion began and I interjected “before the vestry discusses this further you should know the day this parish invests in crypto is the day I resign.”

Important to understand the Epstein stuff and the fascism and the corruption are, in a lot of ways, really all the same story from different angles: powerful men who can and do abuse vulnerable people around them because they can, and because systems of elite accountability catastrophically failed

With an “I got mine F U” zero sum attitude and from what I read he’s even more miserable than when i interacted with him. So is everyone close to him.

Moral: hell can be something you carry with you and within you.

I’m reminded of two very wealthy men I worked fairly closely with. One had as his mission in his later years to give all his money … apart from a set amount in his will for family … he spent his final years pretty happy and content.

And the other who is still around has spent his entire life …

lol! I was actually thinking of dropping a letter off in person.
