I'd like to introduce a new page on my website: U.S. climate indicator visuals (zacklabe.com/united-state...).
I only have a few basic variables so far, but I will be expanding this summer to add a range of metrics (e.g., ecological). I welcome suggestions! Hope this is useful, especially nowadays.

The science is clear. The world is warming at an alarming rate and Arctic and Antarctic are warming twice as fast, and sometimes faster, than the rest of the planet. These stripes show the stark reality of climate change.

Two polar stereographic maps side-by-side showing Antarctic sea ice concentration and its anomalies relative to 1981-2010 for May 2025. Red shading is shown for less ice, and blue shading is shown for more ice. More areas are below average than above. Antarctica is masked out in grey shading.
A lot of regional variability in the pattern of #Antarctic sea ice concentration anomalies during the last month (May 2025). A particularly notable spot was in the Bellingshausen Sea where there was effectively no ice formation.

Line graph time series of 2025's daily Antarctic sea ice extent anomalies in red shading compared to each year from 1979 to 2024 using shades of purple to white for each line. Anomalies are computed relative to a 1981-2010 baseline. There is substantial interannual and daily variability. There are no clear long-term trends.
Monday ice update - it's the freeze season in the #Antarctic (austral winter), but the rate of sea ice growth has slowed in the last week. This graph is showing the current sea-ice extent anomaly (departure from average).

Effective May 5, 2025, NOAAβs National Centers for Environmental Information (NCEI) will decommission its snow and ice data products from the Coasts, Oceans, and Geophysics Science Division (COGS). As a result, the level of services for affected products below will be reduced to Basicβmeaning they will remain accessible but may not be actively maintained, updated, or fully supported. This includes Sea Ice Index, Snow Data Assimilation System (SNODAS) Data Products, Glacier Photograph Collection, U.S. National Ice Center Arctic Sea Ice Charts and Climatologies in Gridded Format Gridded Monthly Sea Ice Extent and Concentration, 1850 Onward World Glacier Inventory. If you rely on these products in your work, research, education, or planning, we invite you to share your story at nsidc@nsidc.org.
