It is. Clinton, a successful gov, wasn’t in the same category as Obama. Obama was an unaccomplished figure who won office by becoming a celebrity. The right noticed the idolatry around a guy who had a cup of coffee in the Senate, who wasn’t ready to be president, but was worshipped regardless.

Everyone outside of NYC and Hollywood knew Clinton was a sleaze, even if they forgave him for it.

Both can be true. He did anger the racists, but he was also a Golden Calf for the left, when he had the scantest resume of any president until Trump.

No one was making pop art posters of Bushes or Clintons or Carters or pretending they were orange 8 lb 5 oz baby Jesus. The dynamic of the celebrity president changed dramatically post-W Bush.

I got a history degree in the 90’s. I guess I never felt any of this because I went to a liberal arts school and looked down on the human screwdrivers who never learned how to think. Grateful for being trained how to parse and weigh the value of sources of information.

Dreamers couldn’t meet “the knowingly and willingly” component of criminal statutes and not all overstays are misuse cases. It’s clunky, but “out of status” or “unauthorized” are more accurate and comprehensive than “illegal” or “undocumented.”

I get the sentiment, but “illegal” implies “criminal,” which is not the case for a substantial minority. The criminal statutes are all entry (illegal crossing, visa fraudulently obtained or misused) not presence focused. Many administratively out of status did not commit a crime.
