How can England possibly be running out of water? While famously rainswept, climate crisis, population growth and profligacy mean the once unthinkable could be possible

A disturbing read.

"As Sir David King, a former UK chief scientific adviser who chairs the Climate Crisis Advisory Group, says: 'Drought in England is no longer a warning. It is a clear signal that climate collapse is unravelling our water, food and natural systems right now.'" (1/2)

🌳 Spenden Schatten & kühlen durch Verdunstung
🌳 Wirken als Luftfilter: fangen Feinstaub, Ruß, Schwermetalle, PAKs und nehmen NO₂, SO₂, O₃ auf (variiert nach Baumart)

Spending $200 billion on ICE is a terrible idea I've covered federal law enforcement for two decades. Here are the things that worry me most.

"We’re creating something even more dangerous to the country: A masked monster of a law enforcement agency, one uniquely unsuited for its new power, authority, reach, and funding levels."

I realize broad science-literacy problems cannot generally be solved just by shoving more facts at people but I really wish more people understood that the entire purpose and mechanism of a vaccine is to educate your OWN immune system, making it about the most "natural" medical intervention possible

Friday essay: Trump and Kennedy are destroying global science. Even Einstein questioned facts – but there’s a method to it Modern science emerged precisely to deal with the way everything can be manipulated – and scepticism over ‘facts’ goes all the way back to Socrates.

Our health, our agriculture, our environmental safety, our ability to ameliorate and adapt to climate change, to regulate AI and to fight the next pandemic, all rely on the proper functioning of the scientific machine. We must not stand by and see it dismantled. theconversation.com/friday-essay...
