Thank you for voting no! Replace Schumer and help those 8 yes votes find their spine!

Thanks for voting no. Now, can you talk to those 8 Vichy voters, and while you're at it, find someone to replace Schumer?

Did you really have access to every word in English and choose "broke from their party's blockade" to describe a problem that the Republicans caused, made no effort to compromise, and could have resolved without a single Democratic vote?

agreeing to make a terrible deal while your main opponent is quite literally being boo'd on live tv by an entire stadium of people is the kind of political instinct you'd normally only find in a 3 week old dead goldfish

Trump administration uses misleading videos to portray chaos, push deportations Official videos purporting to show the triumph of recent immigration operations used footage that was months old or recorded thousands of miles away, a Washington Post analysis found.

Exclusive: The Trump administration has used misleading footage to promote its immigration agenda in at least six videos in the last three months.

Some videos that purported to show chaos in Trump-targeted cities had footage from completely different states.

Trump Administration Live Updates: Pentagon Accepts $130 Million Donation to Help Pay Troops During Shutdown

The amount is meaningless โ€” less than one day of salary. But the principle is important: once the armed services are paid by the oligarchs, they become a private militia, and we no longer have a country.

The Democrats need to get a hell of a lot of cameras on the White House and plaster the photos everywhere. It's not just the brazen symbol of a megalomaniac destroying national heritage; it's happening during a government shutdown when ordinary people aren't getting paid. Make every American see it.

The American Bar Association is deeply concerned about the increasing use of federal prosecutorial power for apparent partisan political ends. A recent pattern of indictments against elected and appointed officials appears to represent a disturbing shift away from independent evidence-based decision-making and toward politically motivated retribution. Such actions constitute an affront to the rule of law and have the potential to degrade the credibility of the Department of Justice in the eyes of the American public.
The American justice system is founded on the principle that prosecutorial decisions must be made independently, without regard to political fear or favor. Since post-Watergate reforms, DOJ leadership across administrations has adhered to this norm. When the department's independence is underminedโ€” especially by purging career prosecutors or fast-tracking cases lacking sufficient evidence โ€” the public loses trust in the fairness and impartiality of the legal system.

It is antithetical to the rule of law for a government to begin with the intent to indict an individual and then search for a purported crime to justify that outcome. Such an approach subverts the foundational legal principle that investigations should be guided by evidence of wrongdoing, not by personal animus. The government must have credible evidence of a specific crime before launching an investigation. To reverse the process by targeting a person first and then combing through their life in search of a potential charge runs counter to bedrock rule-of-law principles. Laws and the justice system should not be wielded as weapons against enemies but should stand as protection for all.
The ABA has long maintained that political interference in the prosecutorial process is corrosive. As stated in ABA policy adopted more than a decade ago, decisions by DOJ attorneys must be based on facts and the law, not ideology or any presidentโ€™s preferences.

Their outcomes, along with the Courtโ€™s actions in the last few years, carry the seeds of American tragedy. Roberts, often described as an institutionalist, has enabled the most hostile anti-institutionalist ever elected president. The leader of the nationโ€™s judicial system has empowered the president who is the most disdainful in history of the decrees of judges, the provisos of the Constitution, and the workings of American democracy. The chief justice, attempting to thread the needle between principle and practicality, has opened the door to the possibility of the ultimate constitutional crisis: a presidentโ€™s outright defiance of the Supreme Court.

Truly excellent new piece by Lincoln Caplan in @harvardmagazine.bsky.social on John Roberts, seen in full.

Careful, meticulous, devastating case on how "institutionalist" has enabled destruction of crucial institutions. Including his now discredited court.
