Tell me you work for an APM vendor without telling me you work for an APM vendor.

That's kind of the point though. Your example in the blog post isn't indicative of real apps, so it shouldn't be used for any real decision making on what o11y tools to use.

This.

I think @nodeland.dev ought to re-do all of this using an app that actually does some work. SSR + ORM would be a good start.

All that said, I strongly discourage hello world benchmarks because they're very misleading.

Agent here being the dd "agent" (i.e. collector). You still need dd-trace, of course.

You can just run it without an agent. You'll lose a wee bit of perf on the retry logic, but it shouldn't add up to much. Everything will still happen, except data egress, and data will just be dropped. Alternatively, it's pretty trivial to make a fake/dummy agent.

There are bigger problems here too like ALS overhead is a function of the code and instrumentation overhead far less so, and it's a hello world.

It's rare to see a benchmark result that isn't, at a minimum, misleading.

Lost dog in SF.
If spotted text John 8572340177 or call animal control 4155546364.
Very shy. Do not chase!

Dog pictured is about 35 pounds, lean, brown brindle coat with black stripes, large pointed ears like a heeler, and dark muzzle.

SF, please help me find my dog. She was lost by her sitter in the mission. But when she escaped 2 years ago, she made it all the way to Golden Gate Park. She is very sweet but very shy.

I am very worried about her getting hurt while she’s loose.

Like, it's not the technology that's bad, it's the lack of appreciation for the unique value of human spirit and intelligence. I'm not afraid of probabilistic inference, but I'm terrified that we're spending $300 billion this year alone on the theory that machines could possibly make humans obsolete

Genuinely do not understand why people spend literally any amount of time on X these days

You are not immune to propaganda and it’s not even *good* propaganda. You’re just cooking your brain in Nazi slop

Yeah, man, I’m sure the reason leftists hate AI is because they don’t know how it works and not the fact that it’s built on theft, used to displace labor and more surveillance/oppression. If they knew how it works and used it they’d think it’s cool/s

My god my fellow tech folks are dense sometimes.

The AI age is the "age of no consent" "Inevitability" means design decisions are no longer informed by user needs; now they are unilaterally imposed. The users are the ones being designed.

Users hate AI. So tech made it mandatory. Even if you don't use it, it pollutes what you read and how systems make decisions. The computer's hallucinated word is final.

And it needs all of your data to do it.

In the age of no consent, UX exists to normalized complete acquiescence to surveillance:

We used to give a shit and understand the whole "great power, great responsibility" thing. Now we just FAFO and boil oceans for racist linear algebra.

Running out of reasons to keep working in tech. This industry needs a do-over.

This is how I felt when folks started dropping like flies into various cults like web3 and AI.

A repost by Elon Musk shows a tweet from Dr. Insensitive Jerk (@DrInsensitive). The tweet expresses controversial and inflammatory views about women and Western culture. It claims that women are built to be traded or captured and integrate into new cultures for safety, referring to them as "physically weak." It argues that women conform to and amplify the dominant culture and suggests that Western women are now promoting an "anti-white culture," despite being white themselves. The tweet concludes by implying that white men should remind women of their identity to avoid harsher consequences.

Below this, a smaller embedded tweet from Elon Musk (@elonmusk) replies to another user, stating: "They’ve been programmed to do so by their teachers and the media."

Elon Musk retweeted a post saying that women were "built to be traded" like property.

Discovery is the biggest problem with RSS. The second biggest problem is shit feeds (i.e. only excerpts or titles, or broken content)
