I've unsubscribed from their email list at least twice, but they just keep coming.
I've written LoRs for students applying to this university before, and this has never happened.
Has anyone else seen something like this?

Encountered an odd situation. I recently wrote a LoR for a student. Naturally, the student had to give the university my contact information for them to forward the letter request and instructions.
Ever since then, the university has been sending me one to two spam emails a week, asking me to apply.

Every time a student notices and appreciates one of the media references I sneak into my exam I grow a little stronger.

Gotta find joy in the little things. Or the Awesome things as it may be in this case.

I had a dream last night that the department moved me to a different office. I left my backpack there and went to grab lunch... and then I got lost for four and a half hours trying to find it.

I'm just glad people are citing my dissertation. Obviously I think it's important and good, but other people thinking it's worth citing is really great.

Hey Meta. Wanna explain how and why you're profiting off an AI model that used a paper I poured blood, sweat, tears, months of my life, and countless breakdowns into?
Without even taking a second to consider whether I (or any other authors you're exploiting) would be okay with that?

I am more than good with my work being free. I don't get paid either way. I am really not good with techbros mistaking what's free (for the good of society) with what's exploitable by them.

Oooh, you're right that it doesn't fall under methods, but that's just the kind of thing I was thinking about! Thank you!

I know this is probably a lot harder to find examples of because of publication bias- and then there's how so many effects are contextual- but I do wonder...

15.03.2025 01:17 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 0    πŸ“Œ 0

Odd question- we often talk about effects that we all thought were real, but then repeatedly failed to replicate.
Do y'all know of any effects that didn't seem real for a long time, but then as methods became more advanced, revealed themselves as robust effects?

The problem with Dems chasing public opinion is that THE PUBLIC'S VIEW OF THINGS IS JUST MOVING IN RESPONSE TO WHAT POLITICAL FIGURES SAY AND IT'S VERY OBVIOUS IN THE DATA MY GOD

Upon learning that yesterday would be my last day as a program officer at the National Science Foundation, I shared this parting message with my colleagues. The next few months will be frenetic and stressful for them. Here are some things that you can do to help them with the mission ahead. (1)

I love the sheer number of academics who've told me that one of their primary motivations is spite.

Distressing news.
Google's obnoxious AI is now making it easier for students to cheat on homework assignments by spitting out Chegg answers.

realizing i never posted it here….but too long have we been limited by the 2-dimensional political alignment chart. i think by using my new tool we can truly map another person's politics. here it is: The Ideology Cube
